Sony Changes Up Release Schedule for Third ‘Spider-Verse,’ ‘Gran Turismo’ & More Amid SAG-AFTRA Strike

Sony is making some big changes to their release schedule in the face of the ongoing SAG-AFTRA and writers strikes.

Since the actors union began their strike earlier this month, movies on the calendar for a late July release have proceeded as scheduled without any promotional efforts from their casts.

However, Sony is one of the first studios to begin announcing changes that will impact their calendar into 2024 and beyond. One movie that is part of a successful franchise has even been put on an indefinite pause.

The Hollywood Reporter noted that Sony has taken the third movie in their Spider-Verse franchise off the calendar. It was initially expected to premiere in March 2024 following the success of this year’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

The first change that fans will experience at theaters is for Gran Turismo, which was supposed to premiere on August 11. It will now hit theaters two weeks later on August 25 with efforts being made to build up anticipation with previews.

Aaron Taylor Johnson‘s Kraven the Hunter is also getting a large modification. It was supposed to premiere in October 2023 and will now arrive in theaters almost a full year later on August 30, 2024. A trailer for the movie was already released earlier this summer.

Karate Kid, originally set for a June 7, 2024 premiere, will now arrive on December 13 of the year. It appears to be the last big modification based on the strike.

Sony also revealed that they expect to release Bad Boys 4 on June 14 and Venom 3 on July 12 of 2024. A sequel to 2021′s Ghostbusters: Afterlife is moving from this year to March 29, 2024.
