Sonam Yadav is an Indian cricketer who plays for the Indian women’s under-19 team primarily as a bowler. A right-handed batsman and slow left-arm orthodox bowler, Sonam Yadav was part of the Indian team that won the Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup in 2023.

Sonam Mukesh Yadav was born on Wednesday, 18 July 2007 (age 15 years; as of 2022) in Raja Ka Tal, Firozabad, Uttar Pradesh. His zodiac sign is Cancer. Sonam grew up watching her brother play cricket and developed an interest in the game herself. When she was 13 years old, Sonam started playing cricket with boys from her area in a nearby park. She was so good at bowling that she would often bowl out players older than her age. Seeing his interest in cricket, his brother enrolled him in the District Cricket Academy of Firozabad, where he got training from cricket coach Ravi Yadav. In an interview, Sonam revealed that she was the only girl in the cricket academy. He said,

I was alone. All the boys there supported me and made me comfortable. When I joined the academy, I was very nervous, but slowly and steadily, I got into it, thanks to the other players.

Sonam Yadav’s father Mukesh Yadav works in a glass factory in Firozabad, Uttar Pradesh. His mother Guddi Devi is a housewife. He has an elder brother, Aman Yadav, who works in a glass factory. A year after starting training at the District Cricket Academy, Sonam Yadav was selected in the Uttar Pradesh Under-19 women’s team. He made his debut for Uttar Pradesh U19 in 2018. In the T20 tournament in 2018, Sonam took three wickets against Andhra Pradesh Women and helped Uttar Pradesh win the championship. In the same year, he made his ODI debut for Uttar Pradesh. She has also played Zonal Cricket Academy matches.

After stellar performances in the state cricket team, Sonam Yadav made it to the U19 Indian women’s cricket team for the New Zealand series, where she took six wickets in four matches. Later, she was named in the Indian women’s U19 squad for the Women’s T20 U19 World Cup 2023. After her selection in the team, Sonam was sent to Goa to receive four-day training in cricket. After this he was sent to Visakhapatnam for further training. Sonam played 6 matches in the World Cup and became the highest wicket taker for India by taking 5 wickets. His best performance in the tournament was taking 2 wickets for one run.
