Almost four years after she revealed that she was kidnapped and raped, British singer Duffy returned to social media.
In his post, Duffy shared a motivational video that reveals the origin of happiness. “One day you will see it,” the voice-over explains. “That happiness was always related to discovery, hope, listening to your heart and following it wherever it decided to go.”
The voiceover continues: “Happiness has always been about being kinder to yourself. It was always about accepting the person you are becoming. One day you will understand that happiness has always been in learning to live with yourself.”
Duffy, whose real name is Aimee Anne Duffy, also captioned the video with a special message for her fans. “A little thing to motivate the heart. I hope you are all OK. Much love, Duffy.”
According to NBC News, Duffy first spoke about her horrific kidnapping in an Instagram post. She later revealed that she was held captive “for a few days.”
“Of course, I survived,” he also shared in the since-deleted post. “Recovery took some time.”
Duffy took a step back from her music career in 2011 after the release of her second album. Endless.

In 2020, Duffy took to her website to share all the details about her kidnapping. She said at the time that the situation occurred on her birthday. During her time as a hostage, Duffy said she “allowed” rape to become a companion.

“They drugged me in a restaurant,” he revealed. “I was drugged for weeks and traveled to a foreign country.”
Duffy said he does not remember boarding the plane and riding in the back of a vehicle. “They put me in a hotel room and the perpetrator came back and raped me. I remember the pain and trying to stay conscious in the room after it happened…”
The singer also shared that she was stuck with her catch for days. He wouldn’t look at her. “I contemplated fleeing to the neighboring city or town while he was sleeping, but he didn’t have any cash and I was afraid he would call the police,” she explained. “For running away.”
She was also concerned that the police would locate her as a missing person. “I don’t know how I had the strength to endure those days,” she admitted. “I felt the presence of something that helped me stay alive.”
Duffy later said the perpetrator drugged her in her own home over the four weeks. She doesn’t know if he raped her there during that time. She simply remembered riding in the car to a foreign country and escaping.
