Shruti Choudhry was born on Friday, 3 October 1975 (age 48 years; as of 2023) in New Delhi. Her zodiac sign is Libra. She completed her primary education from Convent of Jesus & Mary school and Delhi Public School, R K Puram and then went to Oxford, England for her further studies. She completed her BA degree from University of Delhi and then a LL.B. from B. R. Ambedkar University in Agra. Later she practiced law at Karanjewala & Co. for sometime before entering into politics. In 2005, after the sudden demise of her father in a plane crash, her grandfather Bansi Lal, in a rare and sudden gesture, put the pagri on her head in front of a mourning public. This was one of the major turning point in her life which ultimately led her into a political career. In an interview while talking about this particular moment of her life , she said
Honestly speaking, when I started out, I had mixed feelings about all this. The magnitude of the responsibility overwhelmed me, and I was aware that serving the people is possibly one of the toughest jobs in the world. I knew because I had seen my family do this for ages.”

Shruti Choudhry’s father’s name was Surender Singh (1946 – 2005) who was an Indian politician representing Haryana Vikas Party. He was also a Member of Parliament from 1986-1992. At the age of 59, he died in a chopper crash during an emergency landing in Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh on 31 March 2005.
Her mother, Kiran Choudhary is a member of Congress legislative Party in the Haryana Vidhan Sabha. The seat was also represented in the assembly by her father-in-law Bansi Lal and late husband Surender Singh.

Shruti Choudhry turned to politics after the sudden demise of her father in 2005. She contested in 2009 Indian general election in the Bhiwani-Mahendragarh constituency of the Lok Sabha as a member of Indian National Congress party. In these elections she defeated her nearest rival, Ajay Singh Chautala of the Indian National Lok Dal, by a margin of 55,097 votes. This victory although was a major result of the pre-existing goodwill that existed for her family in the area, which can be testified based on how her grandfather held the same seat for 3 terms and her father had done so twice.
