Sharon Stone says doctors thought she was ‘faking’ a brain bleed after suffering a stroke

Sharon Stone opens up about the brain hemorrhage she suffered in 2001.

The Emmy winner, 65, suffered a stroke that caused her to bleed in her brain for nine days. Afterwards, she took a break from acting, although in June she recalled that she had since been “kicked out” of Hollywood.

In a recent interview with FashionSharon spoke about her stroke and brain hemorrhage, recalling the “lightning-like” pain she felt in her head.

“I remember waking up on a stretcher and asking the boy carrying her where I was going, and he said, ‘brain surgery,’” Sharon said. “A doctor decided, without my knowledge or consent, that I should perform exploratory brain surgery and sent me to the operating room.”

Sharon continued, “What I learned through that experience is that in a medical setting, often women just aren’t listened to, especially when there isn’t a female doctor.”

The actress also detailed her challenging recovery process, explaining that she had difficulty walking and lost weight during that period.

“I bled so much in my subarachnoid pool (head, neck and spine) that the right side of my face fell off, my left foot dragged a lot and I stuttered a lot,” he said.

Sharon added that she was initially hesitant to go public with her health problem and “hidden” her disability.
