Shannon Sharpe talks bad about Cam Newton’s youth football fight

Former No. 1 overall pick Cam Newton was involved in an altercation over the weekend. Newton was assaulted by several players and coaches at a 7-on-7 football camp in Atlanta, Georgia, the quarterback’s hometown. NFL Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe called the situation embarrassing.

“Everyone thinks that’s cute [to tell Newton he’s trash]. It’s not,” Sharpe said.

“It’s really embarrassing when someone takes time out of their day… and tries to give back and you’re disrespectful, ungrateful. Cam is much better than me because I have no patience with my own children disrespecting me. “I’ll be damned if I’m going to let someone else’s son disrespect me.”

Cam Newton led Auburn to a Natty with 1 O-lineman who started an NFL game and no one else recorded an NFL reception, rushing attempt, or pass attempt. He’s used to being a one-man army, so you’re wrong if you thought some guys approaching him were going to take him out. The hat didn’t even move. pic.twitter.com/i321xmZTyE

Chad Johnson scolds players for fight with Cam Newton

Former NFL wide receiver Chad Johnson also intervened in the altercation. Johnson also expressed disappointment in the situation. But he also encouraged the actors involved in the skirmish to take advantage of the situation. Because they don’t come often.

“Knowing Cam like I do…. He’s not going to let this bother him,” Johnson said.

“When you have someone like Cam Newton giving players a chance to showcase themselves in these 7-on-7 camps, you’re supposed to take advantage of these situations. “Many times I have seen players, coaches and parents disrespect Cam Newton at these camps.”

The former Heisman winner speaks badly of Newton

Last weekend wasn’t just a one-time deal. Newton has hosted several football camps while he was a player and has done so even more since he stepped away from the game. Which makes the situation even more deplorable. Fellow Heisman winner Robert Griffin III said the current situation should be a wake-up call for everyone to do better.

“In all seriousness, I HATE seeing this. Neither Cam Newton nor anyone else should be disrespected in this way. How can we stand up, improve our communities, and change the narrative when we attack each other like this? By turning a 7-on-7 tournament into a brawl, people leave with the wrong impression of an event meant to bring people together to have fun and compete. We have to be better than this. We are better than this,” she wrote.

“Cam Newton led Auburn to a Natty with 1 O-lineman who started an NFL game and no one else recorded an NFL reception, rush attempt, or pass attempt. He’s used to being a one-man army, so you’d be deluded if you thought a few guys jumping on him were going to take him out. The hat didn’t even move.”
