He started his career as an actor in 2012 with the Malayalam film ‘Urumi’, in which he played a cameo role. Talking about his debut film in an interview, he said,
The 2012 Malayalam film Urumi, directed by Santosh Sivan sir, was my first theater experience. I told my brother that day that he would someday see me playing a role in his film. Luckily for me, it came true.”

- In 1980, Shaili, her family and thousands of Kashmiri Pandits moved to a refugee camp from Anantnag, Jammu and Kashmir. His parents were descendants of a royal family who had to leave their villa and live in a refugee tent. In an interview he talked about his troubled childhood. He said,
My father was well educated. So that, he can secure a job in a bank in Kashmir. This made it possible for my family to get a new home. When I got a chance to use my own bedroom and toilet for the first time, it was like winning the lottery. I was eight years old when I left the camp and our life began anew. But still, it is sad to know that around 60,000 families still live there.
he adds,
So, nothing seems big to me and I don’t take success and fame to my head. My favorite place in the world is my bedroom inside the house that my dad got after he got his first job.”
