Seema initially came in contact with Ghulam Haider when she unknowingly called him back in response to a missed call. Later they started talking and fell in love with each other. Seema’s family was against her marriage to Ghulam; However, he married her in February 2014 against the wishes of his family. After marriage, they moved to Bhittaiabad area of Karachi, where she gave birth to their four children. Reportedly, Ghulam has two children from a previous marriage.

Talking to the media, Seema said that she first met Sachin Meena in July 2020 while playing PUBG. She talked to many strangers as she kept the mic on. She liked the way Sachin played and his tone and after four months they exchanged their numbers and started talking through voice calls and video calls on WhatsApp and Instagram. Later their friendship blossomed into love and both professed their love for each other in January 2021 and started finding ways to meet each other.
He applied for Indian Visa in February 2023; However, it was rejected because the visa application contained a document that required the signature of a gazetted officer on the invitation of an Indian person. Sachin submitted copies of his Aadhaar card for the same; However, he could not get the signature of any gazetted officer. Then they came to know that Indian citizens do not require any visa to visit Nepal, so they decided to meet in Nepal in March 2023; She left her children in Pakistan and met Sachin alone. In Nepal, they first met on 10 March 2023, after which they got married at Pashupatinath Temple and spent a week together in a hotel in Nepal, after which she went back to Pakistan and Sachin returned to India.

According to one source, she sold her parents’ house in her native village in order to travel, and according to another source, she sold her first husband’s house. After selling the plot for Rs 12 lakh, she boarded a flight from Karachi to Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), then boarded a connecting flight to Nepal. In Nepal, he took a van to Pokhara and entered India on 11 May 2023 after taking a bus to Delhi. After reaching Delhi’s Kashmere Gate ISBT, he took a bus to Jewar and dropped the bus at Faleda crossing near Sachin Meena’s village Rabupura in Uttar Pradesh. There Sachin met her and took her to a rented room in Ambedkar Colony, about a km away from his village Rabupura, which he rented for Rs 2500 per month.

Sachin and Seema started living together on 13 May 2023. Sachin used to work at a ration shop during the day and earn Rs 13,000 a month and meet his family daily. On 29 June 2023, the couple went to a lawyer in Bulandshahr to get married legally; However, the lawyer was shocked to see Seema’s Pakistani passport and alerted the police. When police officers raided their rented room, they found that the couple had already vacated the room and were trying to flee the city. According to one source, the police arrested him in Ballabhgarh on 30 June 2023, and according to another source, he was arrested on 4 July 2023.
An FIR No. 159/2023 was registered at Rabupura police station against Seema for illegally entering India, Sachin Meena and his father Netrapal Singh alias Nitter for aiding and abetting the illegal immigrant. He was later lodged in the Luxor Jail in Uttar Pradesh. Netrapal was granted bail on 6 July 2023, and Sachin and Seema were granted bail on 7 July 2023 by Judge Nazim Akbar, Junior Division, Jewar Civil Court; He was later released from jail on 8 July 2023 at 8:30 am. The court ordered him to remain in the same house till the final verdict. Their lawyer, Hemant Krishna Parashar, told the media that the three have to go to the Rabupura police station daily to sign an affidavit and cannot leave the city without permission from the police.
Reaction in India and Pakistan
After news of Seema and Sumit’s love affair went viral, the public came out in support of Seema and requested the government to grant Indian citizenship to her and their four children. Several Hindu organizations visited their home and provided reassurance and financial support to the couple. Some questioned Seema’s qualifications and suspected that she could be an ISI spy. When Seema was asked if she would return to Pakistan, she said that if she ever returned to Pakistan, she would be killed, so she would prefer to die in India than in Pakistan. Sachin Meena’s parents Netrapal and Rani said they would wholeheartedly welcome the foreign daughter-in-law in their home and appreciated Seema’s bravery in crossing the border.
Her first husband Ghulam Haider released a video in which he requested the Indian government, especially Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to send Seema and their children back to Pakistan. He even claimed that after Haider could not contact Seema and her children, her father Ameer Jaan lodged a complaint with the police in Malir Cantt. Seema alleged that her ex-husband Ghulam Haider used to beat her and also put chilli powder on her face. Arguing with him on a news channel, Seema said that she would also divorce him as per the legal process and alleged that Ghulam was releasing the video to gain sympathy.
The Pakistani people condemned the border antics and said that they should have gone to India through the legal route. Seema claimed that she had also received death threats against her and Sachin from some Islamic clerics (Maulanas) in Pakistan. Some Pakistani men from the Jhakrani tribe of Balochistan released a video in which they threatened to kill every Hindu woman in Sindh if Seema and her children were not returned to Pakistan.
