livelihood
In his childhood, he used to go to local fares in his village where he used to play shooting games and from there he developed interest in shooting. At the age of 11, he met Indian pistol shooting coach Amit Sheoran at the shooting range ‘Veer Shahmal Rifle Club’ in Binauli, Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh, which is 15 km from his home. Saurabh joined shooting classes and used to go daily with his friend in the local bus for shooting practice.

In 2016, he made his international debut at the Asian Championship in Tehran. With his extensive training, he has won medals in various national and international competitions including ISSF World Championship, ISSF World Cup, Youth Olympic Games, Asian Games and Asian Air Gun Championship. He became the youngest Indian to win a gold medal at the Asian Games held in 2018.
His personal coach is Amit Sheoran and his national coach is Jaspal Rana. Saurabh performs in shooting events AP60, APMIX and APTEAMM. He has been associated with the shooting club ‘Veer Sehmal Rifle Club’.

In 2018, the Uttar Pradesh government announced a reward of Rs. Saurabh Chaudhary gets Rs 50 lakh and a gazetted job. In 2021, she was selected in the Olympic quota to represent India at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 in the air pistol shooting competition. The program was postponed to 2021 due to the Corona virus epidemic.

- Talking about Saurabh in an interview, his personal coach Amit Sheoran said,
When they started shooting in 2014, we had only a few pistols. Therefore it was not possible for everyone to shoot. So students practiced the positions and strengthened their hands and wrists. I told him to squeeze the wet sack twice a day, because as a child, if you do that too much, your hands start shaking. But he used to do the same four times in the morning and four times in the evening. That is absolutely incredible. There were no fans. The rest of the children used to stop their practice in the hot summer afternoons. Not Saurabh. At only 13 years old, he would become drenched in sweat but would continue shooting. He was always focused and calm, like a monk.
- When Saurabh started training at the Veer Shahmal Rifle Club in Binauli, Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh, he did not have his own pistol. His father said in an interview
We were not able to buy him a pistol worth Rs 200. 2 lakh, so we took a loan to buy the pistol.
Talking about this in an interview, Saurabh’s brother Nitin said,
We discussed among the family members and decided that we will buy it. Saurabh now has two pistols but he shoots only with the first pistol, after returning from practice he would like to train at home also. There were too many people at the practice range, so he was never satisfied. So we decided to create this range between the two rooms.
- During an interview, Saurabh’s brother told that Saurabh used to practice shooting at home till late night. he adds,
Everyone will get disturbed by the sound of the pistol. The neighbors would come the next morning and ask what was happening at night but gradually everyone got used to it.”

- After winning the gold medal in the Asian Games 2018, Saurabh said in an interview,
I left in the morning thinking that whatever would happen remains to be seen. If I had been thinking, or something was going on in my mind, I would not have got this medal. I know these guys are great shooters, but I’ve never seen them. I don’t really have any role models in shooting. I just try to make myself better.”

his world is inside his mind [his world is in his mind], We too have not been able to fully understand him and his nature. All he needs is his pistol and the shooting range and that’s all he cares about. He doesn’t fuss over anything else, even if you are sitting behind him during his training, he remains unaffected. He keeps practicing, looking at his face you don’t know whether it was a good shot or a bad one.”

- During an interview, Saurabh told what he likes to do in his leisure moments. He said,
I like farming. We don’t get much time for training but whenever I do, I go back to my village (Kalina) and help my father. I didn’t feel any pressure. I like to draw, I like to stay away from my phone and break my day into sections. Morning yoga, then breakfast, then shooting. I got into shooting because I liked pistols.”
