In an interview, Sarabjot told that when he was 13 years old, he wanted to become a footballer but one day during the summer camp, he saw some children aiming at paper with pistols. This scene left a deep impression on his mind and he decided to continue shooting. At that time he told his father that he wanted to become a shooter. After this his journey of becoming a shooter started. After winning a silver medal in his first district level tournament, he started taking professional training under the guidance of coach Abhishek Rana.
In December 2022, Sarabjot won a double gold medal at the 65th National Shooting Championships in the team event at the MP Shooting Academy in Bhopal.
In March 2023, Sarabjot, who won the Junior World Championships in 2021 for both the team and mixed team events, earned a gold medal by defeating Ruslan Lunev of Azerbaijan by a score of 16–0 in his first World Cup final match. During the competition, 21-year-old Sarabjot performed exceptionally well and finished as the top scorer after the qualification round with 585 points. After the ranking round, Sarabjot topped with 253.2 points, followed by Ruslan with 251.9 points. Both entered the gold medal round with confidence. Meanwhile, Varun scored 250.3 points, giving him the bronze medal.
At the ISSF World Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan in August 2023, the Indian men’s team of Sarabjot Singh, Shiv Narwal and Arjun Singh Cheema achieved a total score of 1734 in the final, placing them third in the ISSF World Championships.
