Sanjay Balraj Dutt is one of the most famous Indian actors of Bollywood. Apart from being an actor he is also a talented producer. He is famous among his fans with names like Sanju Baba and Munna Bhai. He has suffered a lot in his life and faced many challenges. Sanjay, born on 29 July 1959, is a 64-year-old film star from Mumbai, Maharashtra. He did his schooling from The Lawrence School, Sanawar (near Kasauli, Himachal Pradesh). He was good at studies but at the same time, he developed a serious drug addiction during his high school days. Later he decided to give up this bad habit and was successful in getting rid of it through drug rehabilitation. With the aim of starting a new life with a new name, he also changed his name from ‘Sanjay’ to ‘Sanjay’.
Sanjay’s mother had the life-threatening disease pancreatic cancer, and after suffering from it for a long time, she died on 2 May 1981. After her death, when he watched an audio record of Nargis fighting for her life, he was lost in despair. She cried for several days, because in this she expressed her last wish for her son Sanjay that he should maintain his natural tendencies throughout his life and never show off.

Sanjay hails from a famous Punjabi family of the Indian film industry, where his father, late Sunil Dutt, was a great Indian actor, and mother, late Nargis Dutt, was also a superhit actress of Hindi cinema. He has two younger sisters, Priya Dutt (politician) and Namrata Dutt, who is married to famous Indian actor Kumar Gaurav.
Sanju Baba was the most beloved child of his mother Nargis and she used to call him ‘Chand’. Nargis wanted to see her son on the silver screen but unfortunately, she fell victim to pancreatic cancer and died on 2 May 1981, just five days before the release of Sanjay’s first film ‘Rocky’.
According to some sources, he had an affair with actress Tina Munim in 1981. But their relationship did not last long and ended in 1983. Then, actress Richa Sharma came into his life, whom he chose as his life partner. And married him in 1987. They lived a prosperous married life and Richa gave birth to a daughter, Trishala. However, destiny wanted something else as Richa passed away due to cancer in 1996, just 8 years after their marriage. After his death, his daughter Trishala started living with her maternal grandparents in the United States.
Then, Sanju Baba came in contact with a model Rhea Pillai and after a short period of dating, he married her in 1998. But their marital life did not work out smoothly and they decided to end their marriage with divorce in 2005.
Two years after his divorce from Rhea, Sanjay married actress Manyata or Dilnawaz Shaikh in 2008. Since then, they are living a happy married life with love and mutual understanding. They also have a son Shahraan and daughter Iqra.

She started her career in the Indian film industry as a child artist in the film ‘Reshma Aur Shera’ in 1972. His first film as a lead actor was ‘Rocky’ in 1981.
In 1986, after the success of his blockbuster film- ‘Naam’, he was counted among the leading Bollywood heroes of that time. In 1992, he was nominated for the Filmfare Best Actor Award for the film- ‘Saajan’.
In 1999, he touched the sky with his superhit film ‘Vastav’. His role as Raghunath Namdev Shivalkar or Raghu was highly appreciated by film critics and audiences. For this film he won the Filmfare Award for Best Actor in 2000.
In 2004, he again received the Filmfare Award for Best Comedian for the film ‘Munnabhai MBBS’. His character Murali Prasad or Munna Bhai in this film is considered to be the iconic character of his career.
In the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, Samajwadi Party gave him a ticket to contest the elections, but due to a case of illegal weapons possession, he could not start the campaign and withdrew his candidature. In the same year he also produced a film ‘Shortcut’.

In 1982, he was jailed for five months for possessing illegal drugs. Then, he was arrested under TADA (Terrorist and Disruptive Activities Act) for possessing illegal weapons (AK-56) during the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts. Although he was released from jail on bail in October 1995, he was again arrested by the police in December 1995. But, once again, he came out of jail on bail in April 1997. During this time, he was completely unemployed.
On July 31, 2007, the TADA court acquitted him of Mumbai blasts charges but sentenced him to 6 years of imprisonment for illegal weapons possession. He was taken to Yerwada jail in Pune. On 20 August 2007, he was released on bail, but on 22 October 2007, he was sent to jail again. Ultimately on 27 November 2007, the Supreme Court granted him bail.
On 21 March 2013, the Supreme Court of India, after reviewing the TADA decision, reduced his sentence from six years to five years’ imprisonment.
In 2002, an audio of a conversation between Sanjay Dutt and Chhota Shakeel created a stir in Bollywood.
In 2023, an FIR was filed by Viacom18 media company against Sanjay Dutt and 40 other people. According to the complaint, Sanjay had promoted an app called FairPlay to watch the 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup. According to reports, Viacom18 had the intellectual property rights (IPR) to stream the matches, but the matches were streamed illegally on FairPlay. Later, Maharashtra Cyber Cell sent summons to Sanjay Dutt. According to Cyber Cell officials, Sanjay responded to the summons through a handwritten letter.
