Selim Youssef, better known as Sal Youssef, is a British actor, writer, stand-up comedian and voice artist. He is best known for playing the role of ‘Simon’ in the Kannada film “French Biryani”.

Sal Youssef was born in 1969 (age 51 years; as in 2020) in London, United Kingdom. Sal developed a keen interest in the creative arts from an early age. His inclination towards art led him to participate in school plays. After completing his high school studies, Sal went to Croydon School of Art to study a foundation course in art and design. While in school, he was part of Croydon Youth Theatre. He continued to play notable roles in plays. Sal graduated with a BA (Hons) in Visual and Performing Arts. After completing his graduation, Sal got a job as a workshop assistant at Spitting Image (a British satirical theater puppet show). Initially, he assisted in the making of puppets. However, later, he was elevated to the role of a puppet. After this, he started working as a teacher in postgraduate courses in West Yorkshire. He conducted numerous workshops, teaching a variety of subjects to a wide range of students. In 2007, Sal Yusuf came to India in search of better career options.

While in India, Sal began to realize his talent. It was Rediffusion, an advertising agency, that gave Sal his first assignment. After this he started working as a voice artist in many shows. Being a comedian by nature, Yusuf decided to pursue a career in stand-up comedy. After performing several stand-up comedy shows in Bangalore, Sal appeared at Bombay Comedy Store in 2012; As the first British comic to live in India. Soon, he became a member of the Bangalore-based group The Improv.
Additionally, Sal continued to write scripts and act in self-produced commercials. Subsequently, he received several professional endorsements. In 2014, Sal founded his own company, Black Box India, to showcase the work done by his team for Graphic India (a graphic novel book company). After this, Sal tried his hand in acting by doing small roles in films. Some of her films include “Killi Pooyee” (2013), “Ustad Hotel” (2012), “Iyobinte Pustakam” (2014), “Comrade in America” (2017), “The Performance in Take Off” (2017), “Tiger Zinda Hai” (2017), and “Candyflip” (2017).
In 2020, Yusuf played the role of ‘Simon’ in the Kannada film, “French Biriyani”. This role won him praise.
