RuPaul’s Drag Race is nominated for 11 Emmy Awards in 2022. The popular reality show is popular among viewers and has won several Emmy Awards in the past. The series received a total of 56 nominations. Viewers will have to wait until the live presentation to find out how many awards the show will win this year.
RuPaul’s Drag Race is one of the most popular reality competition series on television. The series, hosted by RuPaul, has had 14 successful main seasons, as well as various spin-offs, including RuPaul’s Drag Race All-Stars and RuPaul’s Celebrity Drag Race. Many candidates who debuted on the stage in drag became household stars known around the world.
RuPaul’s Drag Race has been nominated for Emmy Awards in many categories, including production design, direction, sound mixing and more.
This year, the event retained its significance by receiving a significant number of nominations. Most of the nominations are for mainline programming, with one for host RuPaul Charles and one for popular spin-off series. While the program has a good chance of winning almost everything, the numbers this year will be intriguing to watch.

How did the program and its extensions fare at the 2021 Emmy Awards?
RuPaul’s 2021 Emmy Awards made history. With 11 wins, the host broke the record for the most Emmy awards given by a person of color. The popular reality program also became the most awarded reality competition show at the Emmys. Last year, RuPaul and celebrity cameraman Donald A. Morgan battled it out for the most Emmys for people of color. For the sixth year in a row, the host, whose full name is RuPaul Andre Charles, broke the record for Outstanding Host for a Reality or Competition Program (the show already broke the record at the 2020 Emmy Awards).
During his speech after winning the Emmy Award for Outstanding Competition Program, he praised World of Wonder and Viacom-CBS before praising all the young children who shared their brave experiences. According to the host:
“Thank you to all our amazing young people from around the world for our broadcast.” They are very grateful to be able to share their experiences of courage and how to navigate this challenging life, which is now much more difficult. This is for you. And to the young people watching: you have a tribe waiting for you. We’re ready for you, baby: come to Mama Ru. Thank you very much.”
During the 2021 Creative Arts Emmys, the reality show won four Emmys. Drag Race took home the award for reality show direction (for Nick Murray), which it previously won in 2018. RuPaul’s Drag Race: Untucked won for the first time in the unstructured reality category, adding another feather to the franchise’s cap.
Other reality shows nominated for the 2022 Emmy Awards include The Amazing Race, The Voice, Top Chef and Survivor. Many Netflix reality shows have been nominated for the award, including Love On The Spectrum US, Selling Sunset and Queer Eye. The 2022 Emmy Awards will air live on NBC on September 12th at 8:00 PM ET and will be broadcast live on the Peacock.
