RJ Chaitu is an Indian radio jockey, YouTuber and TV presenter. As a radio jockey, he is best known for hosting two top-rated radio shows ‘Zabardast Masti’ and ‘Midnight Biryani’ on Red FM Hyderabad.

Chaitanya Basava was born on Wednesday, 2 August 1989 (age 32 years; as in 2021), and hails from Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. His zodiac sign is Leo. He did his schooling from TCMA English Medium High School, Vijayawada. His childhood was full of difficulties after the death of his father. At the age of 12, he started earning money by doing odd jobs like courier delivery. Since childhood, he was talkative and participated in many interactive school activities.

He did his intermediate studies from Andhra Loyola College, Vijayawada. Once, during his college days, he watched a live concert of singer-songwriter Devi Sri Prasad. The singer’s performances and interactions with people inspired Chaitu to become an entertainer. In 2008, he moved to Hyderabad, where he joined Osmania University and in the meantime looked for further opportunities. He also did a Diploma in Animation from Arena Institute, Dilsukhnagar. Referring to his busy schedule in Hyderabad, he said in an interview,
I used to go to animation courses in the morning, go to college in the afternoon and work in a call center at night. I hardly slept during that period of life.”
During those days, he also listened to the radio shows of RJ Raj and RJ Pratika, which inspired him to become an RJ.

RJ Chaitu’s father Malleshwar Rao Basava died during Chaitu’s childhood. Subsequently, his mother, Basava Seshukumari, took over the responsibility of raising Chaitu and his brother, Basava Charan. Basav Charan worked in Nischint Social Welfare Trust.

RJ Chaitu worked at various places like shopping malls, call centers and gift shops before stepping into the radio industry. He was rejected for a radio jockey job six times because of the accent he developed during call center training. She got the job in 2009 when RJ Kajal of Red FM Hyderabad called her to audition for an Outdoor Broadcast (OB) radio show. Chaitu went for the audition after taking permission from his office, but he had doubts about it. At the audition venue, he was noticed by the program head, who heard Chaitu on the spot and hired him straight away for the OB show ‘Red on Road’. On 11 September 2009, he started his journey as a radio jockey with Red FM Hyderabad.

Chaitu’s work in the show OB got her the opportunity to host the show ‘Midnight Biryani’ in 2013. Chaitu created a fan following when he went out of character to give a motivational speech to cheer up a caller during his midnight show. The next morning, his audience showered him with lots of love. Recalling that incident in an interview, he said,
The next morning I had 250 emails from people telling me that they connected deeply with what I had said that night… I realized that there are certain emotions that people connect with and they need someone to voice them. There is a need… so if I am able to make someone’s day better through me, I will keep doing that.”
After this, Chaitu made sure to add a motivational message at the end of his show every day. In 2015, he became the host of another show called ‘Zabardast Masti’. The show won the title of Best Radio Show (Non-Breakfast – Telugu) at the Excellence in Radio Awards (ERA) in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2019. Additionally, Red FM Hyderabad was awarded the title of Best FM Station. South in ERA (2016).

In 2010, she started her career as a TV presenter with the Telugu music channel Maa Music (now Star Maa Music). Later, she presented many popular TV shows like College Style, Vow, Chai Biscuit and Must Time Pass.

In 2015 he hosted IPL from Hyderabad. Apart from hosting various programs and TV shows, he also works as a voiceover artist.

Amid the COVID-19 lockdown, he started a defunct YouTube channel ‘Chatterbox Chaitu’. Seeing that there was not a single proper show that had both games and interviews, he disrupted this space by introducing the show “Challenges with Chatterbox Chaitu” (2021) on his channel. The game show was divided into four segments – one minute, 30 seconds, 20 seconds and 10 seconds for each challenge, which created curiosity among both the audience as well as the celebrities playing it. The first episode of the show on YouTube with Syed Sohail, Akhil Sarthak and Ariana Glory was a big hit, garnering one million views within a week.

In 2021, he established a self-titled YouTube channel, on which he conducts interviews and plays games with his friends, posts random vlogs, and takes food challenges.
In 2022, he appeared as a contestant in the Indian Telugu-language reality digital series Bigg Boss Non-Stop Telugu (2022), where he joined Team Challengers.

- During the show Bigg Boss Non-Stop Telugu (2022), RJ Chaitu revealed that he has been facing body shaming since childhood. She confessed this while nominating famous choreographer Nataraja and claimed that Nataraja was body shaming her during the show.
- In an interview, he revealed that his family was supportive of his decision to become an RJ despite being ignorant of the field. He said,
I started earning very early in life. So, my mom and brother, even though they didn’t know what I was doing, they always had faith that I would figure something out. ‘Edo okati chesestadu le vidu,’ he thought.
- In an interview, recalling an amusing incident about his mother, Chaitu revealed that once his mother had video called him while traveling in a train to show off her popular son to other passengers.
