Ritesh Aggarwal was born on Tuesday, 16 November 1993 (Age 30 years; by 2023) in Bissam Cuttack, Rayagada, Orissa (now Odisha), India. Their zodiac sign is Scorpio. He grew up in Titilagarh, Odisha. Ritesh did his schooling from Sacred Heart School, Rayagada, Odisha and then completed his high school from St. John’s Senior Secondary School, Meerut Cantt, Uttar Pradesh, India. Then he went to Kota, Rajasthan to prepare for the IIT entrance exam. After that, in 2011, he joined the University of London International Program at the Indian School of Business and Finance, Delhi and later dropped out. In 2013, he became the first Asian to receive the Thiel Fellowship grant of $100,000, equivalent to Rs 55 lakh.

In 2011, Ritesh Agarwal became India’s youngest CEO at the age of 17 by owning a company called Worth Growth Partners. The company helped foreign companies to establish and expand their market in India. Due to financial losses, Ritesh had to close the company. Ritesh Aggarwal started another company named Oravel Stays in 2011. In 2012, the company was selected by Venture Nursery for the accelerator program and received Rs. Funding of Rs 30 lakh. The company’s business model was similar to Airbnb, where customers could book hotel rooms online at affordable prices across India.
In May 2013, as his business grew, he changed the name of his company to OYO (On Your Own) Rooms. It became a marketplace for hotels to be branded and bring in customers at a budget price. As of 2023, OYO Rooms is available in 80 countries around the world.

Ritesh Aggarwal has been accused of fraud by Oyo co-founder Manish Sinha.
In 2013, Manish Sinha had accused Ritesh Aggarwal of fraud. In an interview Manish Sinha said that he was tricked into selling all his shares to Ritesh, which he held for Oravel Stays.
In 2019, OYO Rooms received a cease and desist order from Washington and a $200,000 fine from California authorities for operating hotel business and reaching out to more than 30 hotel owners in the US under the OYO brand name without proper registration.
Oyo was declared an online fraud company
In 2019 and 2020, hotel owners from Chandigarh, Bengaluru, Mysore and other states filed multiple complaints against Ritesh Aggarwal for fraud and conspiracy. According to sources, the owners claimed that OYO makes more than half of its revenue through fees, which the company has not disclosed at the time of registration. However, Ritesh Agarwal was successful in getting a stay order imposed on a case in Bengaluru.
