Rina Sawayama opens up about the trauma of her past.

During the discussion, he admitted that the album came about after extensive sex and relationship therapy sessions.

“This is the first time I’ve talked about this, but essentially, in doing sex therapy – sexual and relationship therapy – I realized that actually something that I thought was a relationship that I had, when I was 17, was actually what what was it. fixed,” she said.
“Then I realized that when I was 30 because I was finally his age.”
That revelation led her to create the song “Your Age.”
“I clearly remember how uncomfortable that made me, but I didn’t put the two and two together. And it was through this very intense form of therapy, which I feel so lucky to have access to, that I was able to accept that and that completely shattered my world,” she said.
“It came to light that that was what was happening at my school, I was basically a school teacher. I was so slut-shamed, I developed so much shame around my sexuality, and I completely lost my sense of self, I came out of my skin like inside, I don’t know how to describe it. But I felt very afraid of things. And I would have anxiety attacks.”
“To me, seventeen is a child, you’re in school, you don’t have autonomy most of the time, and especially if you’re in a school environment, if a school teacher approaches you, that’s an abuse of power. I didn’t realize that until I was his age,” she added.
“Writing that album was one of the hardest things, but also when I finished it it was one of the most incredible experiences. And now it makes me very happy when I see especially feminine women in the audience connecting with this because I haven’t talked about this in details. I just said that this is about a period in my life when I was younger, but I know the truth and when I look at the audience and I see women connecting with it, I think maybe you already know what I’m talking about, maybe you are. feeling right now.”
Regarding his third album, he said: “I don’t know yet what I’m going to write about. But I would love to see the day when I can write a song that’s just about love or sex, I’m getting there.”
