Former The Real Housewives of Orange County star Meghan King has filed a restraining order against her ex-husband Jim Edmonds over alleged verbal abuse. Meghan and Jim tied the knot in 2014. However, it was Jim’s third marriage, as he was previously married to LeAnn Horton and Allison Jayne Raski. Jim shared two daughters, Hayley and Lauren, with LeAnn, who died in 2015 after a battle with cancer. The former MLB player also shares a son, Landon, with Allison, who he married in 2008 but finally divorced after six years of marriage. Meanwhile, Jim shares three children, daughter, Aspen, and twin sons, Hayes and Hart, with Meghan.
Meghan and Jim’s marriage was littered with multiple controversies. In June 2019, Jim was accused of being unfaithful to Meghan. Among the accusations was that he sent inappropriate photos to another woman and a video of himself masturbating on the same day RHOC star Meghan gave birth to their twins. Four months after Hayes and Hart’s birth, Meghan and Jim split after five years of marriage. The former RHOC star also accused Jim of having an affair with their 22-year-old nanny, but he denied her claims. Although Jim filed for divorce from Meghan in October 2019, the former couple’s divorce wasn’t finalized until May 2021.
Since finalizing their divorce, the relationship between the former lovers has deteriorated despite them co-parenting. On September 8, reports emerged that Meghan filed a temporary restraining order against Jim. The reality television star, 37, reportedly filed the restraining order on June 18 after Jim allegedly abused her. Missouri court records revealed that the former RHOC cast member’s case type is labeled “Adult abuse [without] stalking.” A St. Louis County Court spokesperson told Page Six that the case is of a “high security level.” Hence, the documents are confidential, meaning they can only be obtained if one of the parties involved grants the permission.
Meanwhile, TMZ reported that Meghan alleged in the documents that her ex-husband Jim, 52, showed “frequent and consistent verbal abuse” toward her via text and the co-parenting app Family Wizard. Sources also revealed that the arguments were related to co-parenting issues between Meghan and Jim. Following Meghan’s filing for a restraining order against Jim, the former RHOC husband’s representative, Steve Honig, responded by saying her request for an order of protection was completely baseless. Steve added that Meghan’s filing “makes an absolute mockery of the pain suffered by the millions of women in this country who are legitimate victims of abuse.”
Former The Real Housewives of Orange County star Meghan’s seeking a restraining order against Jim over a year after their divorce was finalized shows the former couple’s problems remain despite calling it quits. Both of them have previously admitted that their co-parenting relationship hasn’t been ideal and this restraining order filing makes it even worse. Despite Jim’s rep’s statement that Meghan’s request for an order of protection was baseless, the former baseball player will have to wait until September 19 when a hearing to determine whether the restraining order will become permanent will be held.
