On Monday, Kanye West was filmed berating a TMZ reporter after snatching her phone. Journalist Melanie Miller has now spoken out about the “alarming” incident.
On the latest episode of TMZ’s podcast with Charlie Cotton, Miller talked about “bumping into” Kanye West while heading to Charlie Wilson’s Hollywood Walk of Fame event in Los Angeles.
“I was alarmed,” Miller began. “I was like, ‘Wow, I didn’t see that coming.’ Because I’ve interviewed him before and he never talks to me. So I’m thinking, ‘I’ll see if he talks to me.'”
“It’s been talked about very well… He won’t let Bianca [Censori] he has an Instagram because he’s trying to protect her. So I say this is an easy opportunity for you to say, ‘Of course I’m not controlling her.’ That’s all she had about it.”
The interview quickly went awry, with Kanye West snatching the reporter’s phone before unleashing a tirade at her.
“People deserve answers to these kinds of things,” he said. “Yeah [Bianca’s] It’s okay, it’s okay. If you post those photos of her and her essentially naked body of hers on her own Instagram because you want to, because you want to post that, that’s fine. But she is doing it. … He has such a lack of respect for women.”
Kanye West calls himself a ‘superhero’ in altercation with journalist
In the now-viral altercation between Kanye West and Melanie Miller, filmed in its entirety by a bystander, an offended West berates Miller as he follows him down the sidewalk waiting for the rapper to return his phone.
The incident began when Miller approached Kanye to ask if his wife, Bianca Censori, had “free will,” after which West snatched the phone from him and continued walking.
“Don’t come asking me that stupid shit, I’m a person,” he said. “You think because you’re a white woman you can come up to me like that and ask me something stupid like that? Ask me about my wife?
“Do you have free will or do you work for the devil?” she added.
Kanye West then asked Miller about his work and why he felt his initial question was appropriate and demanded answers.
“Is that your job to go up to every celebrity and ask them some stupid thing about their wife?” he said. “Was it wrong for you to ask me about my wife, disrespectful shit like that?”
“Answer the question,” he continued. “I’m supposed to answer your questions, answer my questions. …You asked me if my wife has free will. Was it a stupid and disrespectful question to come ask an adult superhero?
