Career

Rejani announced her candidacy for a Senate seat in Wisconsin on 8 August 2023, becoming the first Republican to challenge incumbent Democrat Senator Tammy Baldwin. The primary election in Wisconsin for senator will take place in the first half of 2024. Baldwin is the first openly LGBT woman elected to the House of Representatives in 1999 and to the Senate in 2013.

While announcing her candidacy she said,

I am not a politician. I don’t want to be a politician. I am a regular person who knows the situations in regular people’s lives.”

According to the United States Constitution, there are three eligibility requirements for becoming a senator: the individual must be at least 30 years old, have held U.S. citizenship for at least 9 years, and be a resident of the state they wish to represent. Rejina, who acquired U.S. citizenship in 2015, will meet the 9-year requirement in 2024, making her eligible to run for Senate.
