Red Hot Chili Peppers cancel concert after member suffers serious injury

The Red Hot Chili Peppers recently announced that due to a bandmate’s injury, the group would be pulling KROQ’s Almost Acoustic Christmas show.

In a post on Instagram, the band’s lead vocalist Anthony Kiedis revealed that his bandmate John Frusciante broke his finger earlier this month. The injury notably forced the group to withdraw from the event. Kiedis shared the bad news as he sang an a cappella apology. The apology was notably heard throughout the Christmas show venue.

Fear not, Red Hot Chili Peppers fans, the band plans to play KROQ’s Almost Acoustic Christmas Encore, taking place at the Kia Forum on March 2.

According Pop culture, Frusciante rejoined the band in December 2019, 10 years after his initial departure. He has recorded two albums with the band since then, Unlimited love and The return of the cantina of dreams. Both records were published in 2022.

During a December 2022 interview with Guitarist, John Frusciante reflects on his reunion with his Red Hot Chili Peppers bandmates Anthony Kiedis, Flea and Chad Smith. He admitted it was a different “real” experience.

“Just because of the size of the stadiums,” he explained. “It gets a lot out of you, especially because I came back to the band with a spirit of generosity.”

Frusciante also stated that he really wanted to play for people and when he and his bandmates made the new records, it was more about playing for the other guys in the band. “But when I go on stage, there are times when I go up to the microphone to sing and make eye contact with people,” he continued. “And I see two people who are clearly in love and very happy to be there, or a little boy who is very happy, or a girl who is jumping.”

The Red Hot Chili Peppers bandmate admitted that sometimes, in those moments, he starts to cry. “I’m drowning and I can’t sing,” he explained. “And I have to close my eyes and look at the ground and pull myself together.”

Frusciante said there are many emotional moments for him. “I don’t know if we in the band have ever appreciated being there together so much. Because we have this life behind us of these meaningful moments playing together. It is very important for us. “We all feel very supported by each other.”
