Praggnanandhaa was the winner of the World Youth Chess Championship Under-8 title in 2013. When he was seven years old, he received the title of FIDE Master. He was the winner of the Under-10 title in 2015, after which Praggnanandhaa created history at the age of 10 years, 10 months and 19 days by becoming an International Master Chess player. On August 22, 2022, he defeated world No. 1 Magnus Carlsen 4–2 in the final round of the FTX Crypto Cup, but he could not achieve the first place and finished second in the final standings.

- According to Praga’s father, initially his family did not want Praga to participate in the chess championship. His father said in an interview to a media house that when Praga was three and a half years old, he started showing interest in chess. His father said,
Praga was only three and a half years old when he started showing interest in sports. Her elder sister Vaishali was already being trained in this sport and is an International Master. Our financial situation was such that we could barely raise money for his classes and to take him here and there. And when Praga became deeply interested in chess, my wife and I could not let him do that.
