Praggnanandhaa was the winner of the World Youth Chess Championship Under-8 title in 2013. When he was seven years old, he received the title of FIDE Master. He was the winner of the Under-10 title in 2015, after which Praggnanandhaa created history at the age of 10 years, 10 months and 19 days by becoming an International Master Chess player. He was the winner of the World Junior Chess Championship in 2017 and won his first Chess Grandmaster title. He earned his second chess Grandmaster title at the Heraklion Fischer Memorial GM Norm Tournament in Greece on 17 April 2018. In May 2021, Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa defeated chess world champion Magnus Carlsen in the Chessable Masters online rapid chess tournament. The fifth round of the match was headed for a draw, however, a mistake in Magnus Carlsen’s move resulted in Carlsen’s defeat. Despite winning the match, Praggnanandhaa was not happy. While talking to the media he said,
“I don’t want to win that way.”
On August 22, 2022, he defeated world No. 1 Magnus Carlsen 4–2 in the final round of the FTX Crypto Cup, but he could not achieve the first place and finished second in the final standings.

- According to Praga’s father, initially his family did not want Praga to participate in the chess championship. His father said in an interview to a media house that when Praga was three and a half years old, he started showing interest in chess. His father said,
Praga was only three and a half years old when he started showing interest in sports. Her elder sister Vaishali was already being trained in this sport and is an International Master. Our financial situation was such that we could barely raise money for his classes and to take him here and there. And when Praga became deeply interested in chess, my wife and I could not let him do that.

- Praga’s father is a polio patient. Praga’s mother often travels with her children to watch World Chess Championship tournaments. His sister is a famous chess player. She was the winner of the Woman Grandmaster (WGM) title at the Riga Technical University Open chess tournament held in Riga, Latvia on 12 August 2018. She was also the winner of the International Master (IM) title in 2021.
