Rachel Zegler takes on “The hanging tree” of The Hunger Games And the track just debuted on Friday (October 20)!
The 22-year-old actress will perform the song as Lucy Gray Baird in the upcoming prequel. The Hunger Games: The Ballad of the Songbirds and the Snakesand marks the origin of the song before it is passed down from generation to generation.
If you remember, Jennifer Lawrence sang the song in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 back in 2014.

The lyrics to “The Hang Tree” were written by “Hunger Games” author Suzanne Collins, and the music was created by composer James Newton Howard, with Jeremiah Fraites and Wesley Schultz of The Lumineers.
Fans were first treated to Rachel’s version in the latest trailer for the upcoming prequel film in September.
Producer Nina Jacobson called Rachel’s singing in the film “amazing.”
“Rachel often chose not to play it and just sing it live. Often after they called cut, people would just go crazy applauding!” she said, via Variety. “The big final moment… unbelievably incredible. Her voice is amazing.”
The Hunger Games: The Ballad of the Songbirds and the Snakes hits theaters in just under a month, on November 17th!
