Quinta Brunson explains how ‘Abbott Elementary’ has changed due to the writers’ strike

“Last year we started transmitting in September, when classes started,” Quinta told Deadline. “We won’t do that this year. It’s not like going back to a family show where you can appear with that family on any sitcom. It’s really like, what’s going on at school?

She shared that season 3 will have fewer episodes than season 2 “due to the strike and the broadcast schedule, so ABC has room on their schedule.”

However, the show’s creator is finding the silver lining. “We did 22 last season, and that’s a lot of television, especially for me because I write, produce and star,” he said. “So for me I welcomed a shortened season because it was exhausting, exhausting work. “I love it, but it’s exhausting for me.”
