Priyanka Chaturvedi was born on 19 November 1979 (age 39 years; as in 2018) in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. He was educated at St. Joseph’s High School, Juhu, Mumbai and completed his Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com.) in Accounts from Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics, Mumbai. He studied Entrepreneurial Studies from the Indian School of Business. Priyanka was always fond of reading. She also runs her own book blog where she interviews authors, reviews books, keeps followers updated on book events, organizes book launches and other book-related events. Apart from being a book blogger, entrepreneur, columnist and a social activist, Chaturvedi is also a speaker for the Indian National Congress party. She was also selected for the ISB (Indian School of Business) 10,000 Women Entrepreneurs Programme, a specialization program supported by the Goldman Sachs Foundation for women entrepreneurs.

Priyanka Chaturvedi was born in a Hindu family to Chandrakant Chaturvedi (father). Mother’s name is not known. He has one brother and three sisters. There is not much information about the names of her siblings.

Priyanka is married to Vikram Chaturvedi who works as a Channel Marketing and Program Manager at IBM India. The couple is blessed with a son, Arnav Chaturvedi and a daughter, Anitra Chaturvedi.

After graduation, Priyanka started her career as Director of Empower Consultants (media, PR and event management company). She is also a columnist giving her opinions on various newspapers and online sites. She is also a trustee of 2 NGOs and works further to empower women and provide education to underprivileged children. In 2010, Priyanka entered politics and was appointed General Secretary of the Indian Youth Congress. Gradually, she became popular across social media for supporting and defending the policies of the Congress Party and eventually, she was appointed as the national spokesperson of the Indian National Congress Party. She is often seen on TV advocating for women empowerment, child rights, education and health. She has been listed among the top 10 Indian women politicians.

On 19 April 2019, she left the Indian National Congress and joined Shiv Sena.

Reportedly, she was not happy with the reinstatement by the Congress of some party workers in Mathura who had misbehaved with her at a press conference. In her resignation letter to Rahul Gandhi, Ms Chaturvedi said,

Over the last few weeks, a few things have convinced me that my services are not valued in the organization and that I have reached the end of the road. At the same time, I also feel that the more time I spend in the organization will be at the cost of my self-respect and dignity.

Controversy

  • In July 2018, a 36-year-old man from Gujarat threatened to rape Chaturvedi’s daughter on Twitter. She took immediate action and filed a complaint against him. Within hours, Mumbai Police traced the man and eventually arrested him.
