Priyank Kharge is an Indian politician and member of the Indian National Congress (INC). He was elected MLA from Chittapur Assembly constituency for two consecutive years in 2013 and 2018. He is the son of Indian politician Mallikarjun Kharge.

Priyank M Kharge was born on Wednesday, 22 November 1978 (age 44 years; as in 2022) in Bengaluru, Karnataka. Their zodiac sign is Sagittarius. He studied PUC from MES College, Malleshwaram, Bengaluru (1996–1998). Later, he obtained a Diploma in Graphics (Graphic Design) and Advanced Diploma in Animation (Animation, Interactive Technology, Video Graphics and Special Effects). Kharge started his political journey in 1998 as an activist of the National Students Union of India (NSUI). In 1999 he became NSUI College General Secretary. From 2001 to 2005, he served as the General Secretary of NSUI Karnataka.

Priyank Kharge’s father Mallikarjun Kharge is an Indian politician and member of the Indian National Congress. He became a Rajya Sabha MP on 16 February 2021. Earlier, he served as the Minister of Railways and Minister of Labor and Employment in the Central Government and the Leader of Opposition in the Karnataka Assembly. His mother Radhabai Kharge is a housewife. Priyank has two brothers, Rahul Kharge and Milind Kharge, and two sisters, Priyadarshini Kharge and Jayashree Kharge. His son Rahul Kharge was a civil servant who later started working as a consultant to IT companies; His wife Arundhati Kharge is an electrical engineer. His daughter Priyadarshini Kharge is a doctor.

In 1999, he joined the Indian National Congress (INC). He served as Karnataka Pradesh Youth Congress Secretary from 2005 to 2007, Karnataka Pradesh Youth Congress General Secretary from 2007 to 2011, and Karnataka Pradesh Youth Congress Vice President from 2011 to 2014. Later, he was appointed as the spokesperson of Karnataka Pradesh Congress. Committee (KPCC).
2009 Karnataka assembly by-election
Priyank Kharge contested the 2009 Karnataka by-election from Chittapur Assembly seat and lost. BJP candidate Valmiki Nayak won the seat, defeating Kharge by a margin of 1,606 votes.

In 2013, he contested from Chittapur Assembly seat and defeated BJP candidate Valmiki Nayak by a margin of 31,191 votes. In 2016, he was the youngest minister to take oath in Siddaramaiah’s cabinet. From July 2016 to April 2018, he served as the Minister of State for Tourism, Information Technology and Bio-Technology in the state.
2018 Karnataka Legislative Assembly election
In 2018, he contested from Chittapur Assembly seat and defeated BJP candidate Valmiki Nayak by a margin of 4,393 votes. He served as the Minister of Social Welfare in the coalition government led by HD Kumaraswamy from 8 June 2018 to 23 July 2019.

G-category site allotment
In 2011, Kharge came under public scrutiny with his announcement of surrendering 4,000 square meters of land. feet plot in HSR Layout, which he bought as Chief Minister, Congress leader N. It was allotted by the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) during the tenure of Dharam Singh. He made this announcement after it was reported in the media that G-category sites were allotted to politicians and their relatives. After acquiring the plot at a very low price of Rs. Kharge constructed a commercial building on it with Rs 8.57 lakh. On 28 October 2011, he wrote to the BDA demanding cancellation of the allotment, saying he “no longer needed” the plot. The BDA accepted their request and canceled the allotment on 5 December 2011. However, when the media turned its attention to other issues, Kharge requested the BDA to reallocate the site. BDA approved his request. On January 23, 2012, Kharge once again approached the BDA to change his 4,000 square feet land. 2,400 sq ft plot. feet plot which belonged to his party colleague Sharan Prakash Rudrappa Patil (MLA from Sedam). His request was approved by BDA Commissioner Bharat Lal Meena. Responding to the media as to why he wanted to exchange plots with Patil, Kharge said that “it was a mutual exchange.” Addressing the media he also said,
When the controversy arose, we did not want to take any part in it and returned the site. Then, our legal advisor told us that the matter of G-category allotment was before the court. We were advised that it was unnecessary to surrender the plot at this stage.
lewd remarks on women
Addressing a press conference in 2022, Kharge said that to get a government job in Karnataka, men have to pay bribes while young women have to sleep with someone. This comment sparked controversy and the Karnataka BJP strongly criticized it and demanded an apology from him. BJP Karnataka tweeted,
Thousands of talented, educated women work hard, pass many exams and get jobs. Priyanka Kharge, don’t these words of yours insult so many women? Apologize immediately.”

In September 2023, Priyank Kharge courted controversy when he expressed his support for Udhayanidhi Stalin, who made a statement during a press conference on 2 September 2023 where he referred to ‘Sanatan Dharma’ as a problem and Suggested its “elimination”. In the same month, an FIR was filed against Udhayanidhi Stalin as well as Priyank Kharge for hurting religious sentiments; However, Kharge later addressed the issue in an interview and clarified that he did not intend to hurt any religious sentiments. He also said that he is not afraid of facing the consequences of expressing his views.

- In 2011, Priyank Kharge’s sister Priyadarshini Kharge came into limelight for 3280 square feet of land which she had purchased on January 15, 2002, allegedly in violation of the society’s bye-laws. In 2002, Mallikarjun Kharge served as the Home Minister in the SM Krishna-led Congress government. He acquired a plot in Yelahanka (Allasandra) Judicial Layout for Rs 1,96,837, while its market price was in crores. In light of the allegations, he returned the concerned land to the Karnataka State Judicial Department Employees House Building Co-operative Society (KSJDEHBCS) in 2011. Taking advantage of the land by Priyadarshini would have been a direct violation of clause 10 of the Model Bye. The laws of the HBCS, which relate to the rights of members. Clause-10(b) says: “In the case of an employee house building society he is an employee of the organization for which the society is organized and has rendered minimum five years continuous or intermittent service in Karnataka.” Priyadarshini was not eligible to become a member as she was a doctor by profession while the land was reserved for judicial employees.
