Priyank Kharge is an Indian politician and member of the Indian National Congress (INC). He was elected MLA from Chittapur Assembly constituency for two consecutive years in 2013 and 2018. He is the son of Indian politician Mallikarjun Kharge.

Priyank M Kharge was born on Wednesday, 22 November 1978 (age 44 years; as in 2022) in Bengaluru, Karnataka. Their zodiac sign is Sagittarius. He studied PUC from MES College, Malleshwaram, Bengaluru (1996–1998). Later, he obtained a Diploma in Graphics (Graphic Design) and Advanced Diploma in Animation (Animation, Interactive Technology, Video Graphics and Special Effects). Kharge started his political journey in 1998 as an activist of the National Students Union of India (NSUI). In 1999 he became NSUI College General Secretary. From 2001 to 2005, he served as the General Secretary of NSUI Karnataka.

political career

In 1999, he joined the Indian National Congress (INC). He served as Karnataka Pradesh Youth Congress Secretary from 2005 to 2007, Karnataka Pradesh Youth Congress General Secretary from 2007 to 2011, and Karnataka Pradesh Youth Congress Vice President from 2011 to 2014. Later, he was appointed as the spokesperson of Karnataka Pradesh Congress. Committee (KPCC).

2009 Karnataka assembly by-election

Priyank Kharge contested the 2009 Karnataka by-election from Chittapur Assembly seat and lost. BJP candidate Valmiki Nayak won the seat, defeating Kharge by a margin of 1,606 votes.

In 2013, he contested from Chittapur Assembly seat and defeated BJP candidate Valmiki Nayak by a margin of 31,191 votes. In 2016, he was the youngest minister to take oath in Siddaramaiah’s cabinet. From July 2016 to April 2018, he served as the Minister of State for Tourism, Information Technology and Bio-Technology in the state.

2018 Karnataka Legislative Assembly election

In 2018, he contested from Chittapur Assembly seat and defeated BJP candidate Valmiki Nayak by a margin of 4,393 votes. He served as the Minister of Social Welfare in the coalition government led by HD Kumaraswamy from 8 June 2018 to 23 July 2019.

G-category site allotment

In 2011, Kharge came under public scrutiny with his announcement of surrendering 4,000 square meters of land. feet plot in HSR Layout, which he bought as Chief Minister, Congress leader N. In September 2023, Priyank Kharge courted controversy when he expressed his support for Udhayanidhi Stalin, who made a statement during a press conference on 2 September 2023 where he referred to ‘Sanatan Dharma’ as a problem and Suggested its “elimination”.   • In 2011, Priyank Kharge’s sister Priyadarshini Kharge came into limelight for 3280 square feet of land which she had purchased on January 15, 2002, allegedly in violation of the society’s bye-laws. In 2002, Mallikarjun Kharge served as the Home Minister in the SM Krishna-led Congress government. He acquired a plot in Yelahanka (Allasandra) Judicial Layout for Rs 1,96,837, while its market price was in crores. In light of the allegations, he returned the concerned land to the Karnataka State Judicial Department Employees House Building Co-operative Society (KSJDEHBCS) in 2011.
