In 2023, a video went viral on the internet in which Pravesh Shukla was seen urinating on a tribal labourer, allegedly in an inebriated state. He was seen smoking a cigarette while urinating on the victim. The incident took place in June 2023 at Kubari Bazaar in Sidhi district. The victim was identified as Dasmat Rawat (36), resident of Karaundi village. Following an online outcry, Parvesh Shukla was arrested late on the night of July 4, 2023. The arrest came as a result of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s directive to invoke the stringent National Security Act (NSA) against Shukla. Sidhi Superintendent of Police Ravindra Verma, while talking to the media, confirmed the arrest of Shukla and said,
An FIR has been registered against him (Shukla) under sections 294 (use of obscene language), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and relevant sections of the SC/ST Act.

While BJP leaders distanced themselves from Shukla after the video went viral, the opposition Congress alleged that Shukla was an associate of Kedarnath Shukla. Meanwhile, Pravesh Shukla’s father Ramakant Shukla also claimed that Pravesh was a representative of Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Kedarnath Shukla. In an interview he said,
He is the representative of BJP MLA, which is why he is the target of the opposition. I hope that the matter will be thoroughly investigated and justice will be given.
However, Kedarnath rejected the allegation. He said,
Pravesh was never my representative. I just know him.”
After the video became widely circulated and subsequently came to public attention, an affidavit was submitted on behalf of the victim, clearly stating that there was no conflict between him and Pravesh Shukla. Furthermore, the victim expressed his belief that the viral video was indeed false.
