As soon as Poppy Playtime Chapter 2 announced its antagonist, Mommy Long Legs, fans have been wondering if a Daddy Long Legs exists in the Poppy Playtime universe and whether he’ll appear in the upcoming chapter. Since then, the Daddy Long Legs concept has spawned numerous memes and fan art of what Mommy Long Legs’ counterpart could look like. Although it’s somewhat likely that Poppy Playtime Chapter 2 is already complete, as its release is rumored to be April 29, it would be nice to see a reference to Daddy Long Legs in a future chapter of Poppy Playtime.
While the latest Poppy Playtime chapter release date has yet to be confirmed by MOB Games, the April release date for Chapter 2 was leaked on Steam. MOB Games has announced that Chapter 2 is three times the size of the previous chapter, sending players deeper into the abandoned toy factory. Due to its size in comparison to Chapter 1, it’s likely Chapter 2 will introduce an array of new characters, some of whom will appear in posters, video footage, or as lifeless, broken toys that the player can’t interact with.
Despite only one chapter of the game being released so far, Poppy Playtime has already developed detailed lore about the Playtime Co. Toy Factory, its employees, and its toy inhabitants. Many characters are only referenced in Playtime Co. posters or commercials, or broken toy parts scattered around the factory. Not all of these characters get a starring role or storyline. Poppy Playtime could easily make a reference to Daddy Long Legs, a nod to the game’s fan base and their creativity, using one of these methods.
Poppy Playtime Lore: Daddy Long Legs Could Be Canon
As the game has likely been completed already, Poppy Playtime could still make Daddy Long Legs canon by featuring him in a video teaser or poster on the game’s social media accounts. Poppy Playtime has done this before, with recent teasers for Chapter 2 on Twitter showing the shadows of unknown toys. Additionally, characters like Candy Cat have only appeared on posters and not as toys in-game. This leaves the possibility of them having a role in future chapters of Poppy Playtime, or they may continue to only exist in media.
Although Poppy Playtime Chapter 2 has likely been completed already, MOB Games could still make Mommy Long Legs’ counterpart, Daddy Long Legs, part of the game’s canon by featuring him in a future chapter or promotional material. Poppy Playtime is well-known for telling its story through toy commercials, VHS tape footage, and promotional posters for Playtime Co. Acknowledging the fan-made Daddy Long Legs would be a nod to Poppy Playtime‘s loyal fan base, as well as showing players that the developers are listening to them, especially after the recent scares over police issuing Poppy Playtime warnings and backlash regarding NFTs.
