Pooja Rani Bura was born on Sunday, 17 February 1991 (age 30 years; as in 2021) in Nimriwali village in Bhiwani district of Haryana. Their zodiac sign is Aquarius. He became interested in boxing in his teenage years. However, it took almost a year for him to get enrolled at Hawa Singh Boxing Academy in Bhiwani. Initially, he kept it a secret from his father because he was afraid that his father would scold him. She often stayed away from home to hide her injuries from her father. Talking about this in an interview he said,
If I got injured during training, I would not return home so that no one would see the cut or swelling.
he adds,
My mother would lie to my father and tell him that I was staying at a friend’s house to study, while I stayed at my coach’s house despite my injury.
When her father came to know about Pooja’s involvement in boxing, he scolded her and even stopped her from going to boxing classes. When Pooja’s coach Sanjay Kumar Sheoran came to know about it, he went to her house and requested her father to allow her to participate in competitions. However, his father did not agree to this. It took about six months for Pooja to convince her father to take up boxing as a career option.

Family
Pooja’s father Rajbir Singh is a former sub-inspector. His mother Damayanti Devi is a housewife. He has an elder brother named Arvind Bohra and an elder sister named Poonam Bohra.
livelihood
Pooja started her boxing career in 2009. She participated in the National Youth Boxing Championship in 2009 and won the silver medal by defeating Haryana’s leading boxer Preeti Beniwal. After this Pooja won the silver medal in the Asian Boxing Championship in 2012.
In the same year, he won a silver medal at the Arafura Games held in Australia. This victory helped him become one of the contenders to qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympics. However, her defeat at the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in 2016 resulted in her being disqualified for the Olympics. Pooja also represented India in the 2014 Commonwealth Games. However, she lost to English boxer Savannah Marshall. In 2018, she competed at the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championship but was eliminated in the first round. In 2020, she became the first Indian to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics by defeating Pornnipa Chuti in the quarterfinal round of the women’s 75 kg at the Asia-Oceania Olympic Qualifiers.
Apart from boxing, Pooja is appointed as Income Tax Inspector in Haryana Government.

- She is very conscious about her fitness and goes to the gym daily.
- Pooja is a pet lover and has a pet dog named Jerry.
- He received the Bhima Award in 2015 for his contribution to boxing.
- In 2016, Pooja got her hand burnt during Diwali celebrations and had to undergo surgery. Due to her surgery, Pooja stayed away from boxing for 7-8 months. After recovery she returned to the game but suffered a shoulder injury shortly afterwards and had to prepare for another long layoff.

- During an interview, Pooja recalled how she used to hide the injuries and bruises she sustained during sports from her parents. He said,
My parents were against my plans to pursue a career in boxing. My father used to say, “Nice kids don’t play boxing”. The situation was such that I was afraid that if my father saw my injuries he would stop me from going to the boxing ring. That’s why I will hide my injuries from him and my mother.
