Aaron Newman talks about the disappearance of the Titanic’s research submersible and his firsthand experience.
As rescue missions continue to find the missing submersible, the OceanGate investor spoke to Today about touring the Titanic wreck in 2021, describing the experience as “basically going to another planet.”

“You are going to get on this boat, you are screwed. It’s a tube that’s comfortable, but not roomy,” she said, describing the cabin as “very hot and stuffy” until the craft descends 29 to 30 degrees Fahrenheit deeper. below.
“By the time it hits bottom, the water is below standard freezing temperatures. That will go through that metal, so it was cold when we were at the bottom. You had to layer up – we had hats and we were doing everything we could to keep that butt warm.”
He said he felt “very safe” while traveling, however “there are risks.”
“This isn’t a Disney ride, is it? We go to places that very few people have been, and this is making things up.”
“None of these people were people you would consider tourists, tourists is such a bad term. These are people who were living on the edge and loving what they were doing and if something is happening these are people who are calm and thinking about it and doing what they can to stay alive. So this is a good group of people,” he continued.
“Our focus is just waiting for this Hollywood ending to happen. We know the Coast Guard and everyone else is working very hard. And the OceanGate team is working as hard as they can to find this, if there is anything out there. It’s promising, but there’s work to be done, and that’s the focus.”
There has been a significant update on the ongoing search for the missing OceanGate submarine.
