Paddy Moloney was an Irish musician, songwriter and record producer. Paddy Moloney co-founded and managed the Irish rock band The Chieftains, appearing on all 44 of their albums.
Education and early age
Paddy Moloney was born in Dublin, Ireland on August 1, 1938. Paddy had Irish nationality, although his ethnicity is unknown. His zodiac sign was Leo.
As for his family background, he is the son of Irish Glass Bottle Company accountant John Moloney (father) and housewife Catherine (mother). When he was six years old, his mother gave him a tin whistle, and when he was eight, he began to study the uilleann pipes.

Career and professional life

In November 1962, Moloney founded the traditional Irish band the Chieftains in Dublin with Sean Potts and Michael Tubridy. As bandleader, he was primarily responsible for writing and arranging most of the Chieftains’ music.

He also provided the music for several films, including Barry Lyndon, The Gray Fox, Braveheart, and Stanley Kubrick’s Gangs of New York.
Additionally, The Muppets, Mike Oldfield, Gary Moore, Sting, Don Henley, Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder, and Mick Jagger were among the artists for whom Moloney provided session work.
In 1959, he and Garech de Brn from Luggala (whose name has been anglicized to Garech Browne) formed Claddagh Records. He joined the company as a producer in 1968 and oversaw the creation of 45 albums.

Death

As for his love life, from 1962 until his death in 2021, Moloney was married to artist Rita O’Reilly. They first connected in the 1950s, when he was working at Baxendale & Company. Padraig, Aonghus and Aedin, the latter of whom is an actor and producer, were his three sons.
