Warning: SPOILERS for chapter #1066 of One Piece
The island of Elbaf will finally make its debut soon in One Piece, and the land of the Giants holds the answers to all the mysteries in the series. Chapter #1066 of Eiichiro Oda’s best-selling manga revealed that the library of Ohara, a repository of knowledge regarding the Great Kingdom and the Void Century, has been salvaged after the destruction of the island by a crew of Giants, who have likely brought it to their homeland of Elbaf, meaning that will be the Straw Hats’ next destination.
The mythical land of the Giants was mentioned for the first time in One Piece by Usopp, whose dream is to visit Elbaf and, one day, call himself a proud warrior of the seas just like the Giants. Elbaf and its inhabitants are clearly inspired by Norse mythology and, even in a fantastic world of pirates and magic fruits, this country stands out as one that readers absolutely want to see. The Straw Hat Pirates met with Giants many times, most famously with the two former captains Dori and Brogi during the Little Garden arc. In Dressrosa, Luffy befriended and saved another mighty Giant warrior, Hajrundin, who, out of gratitude, swore fealty to the Straw Hat captain and became one of the commanders of the Straw Hat Grand Fleet. Recent revelations, however, tease that Hajrundin and his crew will have a much bigger role in the story than expected.
In chapter #1066 of One Piece, Dr. Vegapunk tells the Straw Hats the story of how he visited Ohara, the country of scholars, shortly after it was destroyed by the World Government for conducting research on the forbidden Void Century. Vegapunk discovered that the archeologists of Ohara managed to save their precious library by throwing in a lake all of its books, which were later recovered by a group of Giants. From Vegapunk’s flashback, the three figures he witnessed are clearly Hajrundin and his crew, the New Giant Warrior Pirates. Vegapunk then visited Elbaf himself and memorized all the information contained in the books. Considering how important the knowledge of the Void Century and Great Kingdom is for the overall plot of One Piece, it’s clear that the Straw Hats’ next destination must be Elbaf.
Elbaf Holds The Answers To The Biggest Mysteries In One Piece
Just like Luffy and Usopp are excited at the prospect of an island full of powerful Giant warriors, fans of the series have been waiting to see Elbaf for the longest time. Big Mom’s flashback took place there, but it focused mostly on the villain. The Straw Hats have already strong ties with the Giants, and it will be good to see all those plot threads come to fruition. More importantly, chapter #1066 also teased that Saul, the Giant who saved Nico Robin’s life on Ohara, also survived and is waiting in Elbaf, which is yet another reason for the Straw Hats to visit the country. Once there, Robin will be able to consult the salvaged Ohara library and finally learn (and explain to everyone) the truth about the mysterious Great Kingdom and its destruction during the Void Century at the hands of what then became the World Government.
It is clear that Eiichiro Oda is slowly but surely moving toward the end of his manga, as many plot threads that developed over the course of decades are coming together. As for Elbaf’s case, it is great to find out that the country that has been teased for the longest time in the series also holds the keys to the most important mysteries in One Piece.
