Omar Abdullah is an Indian politician and former Chief Minister of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kasmir. Furthermore, Omar Abdullah was Minister of State for External Affairs under Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
Early life
He was born into the world on March 10, 1970 in Rochford, Essex, England, United Kingdom. In 2022, his current age is 52 years old. He is the grandson of politician Sheikh Abdullah. He enrolled at Burn Hall School and later studied at Lawrence School, Sanawar. He subsequently obtained his Bachelor of Commerce at Sydenham College. Furthermore, he graduated with an MBA from the University of Strathclyde.
Professional life
His important political career began in 1998 when Omar elected to the 12th Lok Sabha. In 1998-1999, he served on both the Transport and Tourism Committee and the Advisory Committee of the Ministry of Tourism. Later, he was elected member of the 13th Lok Sabha.
The same year, he was elected Union Minister of State, Commerce and Industry. On July 22, 2001, he became the youngest Union minister but left office to focus on party work. In 2002, he became president of the National Conference party, supplanting his father, Farooq Abdullah.

In March 2006, much to the centre’s displeasure, Omar Abdullah had a one-on-one meeting with Pakistan’s leader Pervez Musharraf in Islamabad. This was the first such meeting between a traditional legislator of Jammu and Kashmir and the Pakistani government for commitment to the solution of the cause of Jammu and Kashmir.
After the 2008 Kashmir elections, the National Conference won the largest number of seats and formed an alliance government with the Congress. Omar was confirmed as the 11th Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir on 5 January 2009 at the General Zoravar Singh Auditorium of the University of Jammu.
