NV Ramanna enrolled himself with the Bar Association of Andhra Pradesh on 10 February 1983 and started his practice as an advocate in the High Court of Andhra Pradesh. Additionally, he practiced in the Supreme Court of India for matters such as civil, criminal, constitutional, labour, service and electricity. He was appointed as Additional Standing Counsel for the Central Government and was also part of the Standing Counsel for Railways in the Central Administrative Tribunal at Hyderabad.   • In October 2020, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and his chief advisor Ajay Kallam alleged that NV Ramana was changing the meetings of the Andhra Pradesh High Court and that he was trying to influence judges to destabilize the state government.
