NV Ramanna is an Indian judge who served as the 48th Chief Justice of India (CJI); He was appointed by the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, on 6 April 2021, and assumed office on 24 April 2022. NV Ramana retired as the Chief Justice of India (CJI) on 26 August 2022.

Nuthalapathy Venkata Raman alias NV Raman was born on 27 August 1957 (age 65 years; as in 2022) in Ponnavaram, Andhra Pradesh. His zodiac sign is Virgo. NV Ramanna enrolled himself with the Bar Association of Andhra Pradesh on 10 February 1983 and started his practice as an advocate in the High Court of Andhra Pradesh. Additionally, he practiced in the Supreme Court of India for matters such as civil, criminal, constitutional, labour, service and electricity. He was appointed as Additional Standing Counsel for the Central Government and was also part of the Standing Counsel for Railways in the Central Administrative Tribunal at Hyderabad. In June 2000, NV Ramana was appointed as a permanent judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court. NV Ramanna was appointed as the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court in September 2013 and became a judge of the Supreme Court in February 2014. - In October 2020, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and his chief advisor Ajay Kallam alleged that NV Ramana was changing the meetings of the Andhra Pradesh High Court and that he was trying to influence judges to destabilize the state government. Were staying. However, the case was dismissed by the court and Attorney General of India KK Venugopal said that the case was ‘grossly unfair’ and the CM’s conduct was deliberately disobedient. Furthermore, KK Venugopal refused to take any action against YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and his advisor.
- In September 2020, NV Ramana was dragged into controversy when an FIR was filed against his daughters, Tanuja and Bhuvana, along with eleven others at the Anti-Corruption Bureau, Guntur. The complaint states that the people involved had illegally purchased large pieces of land in Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh in the year 2013-2014.

- Justice NV Ramanna was part of the bench tasked with speedy trial of cases related to the restrictions imposed in Jammu and Kashmir following the abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution. He was also part of the bench that handled the case of allowing 4G mobile internet services in Jammu and Kashmir.
- Justice Ramana has expertise in constitutional, criminal, service and inter-state river laws. He has taken several decisions ranging from election issues to bringing the office of the Chief Justice of India under the ambit of the Right to Information (RTI) Act. He said-

- In 2017, NV Ramanna was part of the bench that took the decision in the Aircel-Maxis deal case. The bench asked government lawyer Anand Grover to file a formal petition urging the court not to release Maran Bhai’s properties; However, Dayanidhi Maran and his brother, Kalanidhi Maran, were discharged by the court on 2 February 2017.
- In August 2020, Rajasthan State Legal Services Authority (RSLSA) conducted the first e-Lok Adalat under the guidance of National Legal Services Authority. The e-Lok Adalat was organized in various districts of the state like Barmer, Jaisalmer, Sirohi etc., where around 45,000 cases were heard by the judges’ benches and around 33,476 were disposed of. The closing ceremony was attended by Justice NV Ramana and several other senior judges of high courts.

- In 2020, NV Ramana donated Rs 1 lakh each to the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund, Chief Minister’s Relief Fund of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh states. Donations were made by check and handed over to the concerned authorities.
