Nupur Sharma was born on 23 April 1985 (age: 38 years; as in 2023) in a Brahmin family in New Delhi, India. He received his primary education at Delhi Public School, New Delhi. For higher education, he joined Hindu College of Delhi University and obtained LLB degree. Nupur received her LLM degree from the London School of Economics, London, England.

Nupur has been active in politics since her college days at Delhi University. She was elected President of Delhi University Students Union on the ticket of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad. She has also been a youth ambassador for Teach for India (affiliated with Teach for America). He has held various important positions within the party such as member of the youth wing of BJP, national executive committee member of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), national media co-in-charge of BJYM, member of the working committee of “Yuva”. BJP, and member of State Executive Committee, BJP Delhi.
Nupur has been the spokesperson for her party and has participated in various debates in the media to represent her party’s views. In the 2015 Delhi state election, she contested against Aam Aadmi Party leader, Arvind Kejriwal and veteran Indian National Congress leader, Kiran Walia. However, she lost the election but emerged as the runner-up.
Controversy
derogatory remarks against islam
On 5 June 2022, the Bharatiya Janata Party suspended Nupur Sharma for making derogatory remarks against Prophet Muhammad and the Muslim community during a television debate. According to the statement issued by BJP, the party respects every religion and does not allow any of its members to make derogatory remarks against any religion. read the statement,
BJP strongly condemns the insult to religious personality of any religion. Bharatiya Janata Party is against any ideology that insults or insults any sect or religion. BJP does not promote such people or philosophies. Every religion has blossomed and flourished in the thousands of years of history of India. Bharatiya Janata Party respects all religions.”
After the uproar, Nupur Sharma apologized unconditionally and said that she never intended to hurt anyone’s religious sentiments. On June 9, 2022, he was booked by Delhi Police for disturbing public peace and trying to incite people on divisive grounds. On July 1, 2022, the apex court rapped Nupur Sharma for her comments which led to violence, unrest, demolitions and arrests in several states of the country. Justice Surya Kant, leading the vacation bench of Justice JB Pardiwala, said orally,
The way she has incited emotions in the entire country… this woman is single-handedly responsible for what is happening in the country.
On 10 August 2022, as per the order of the Supreme Court of India, all cases filed across the country against Nupur Sharma for her comments about Prophet Mohammed were transferred to Delhi.

- He served as guest editor for the Republic Day special edition of the national daily ‘The Times of India’ in 2009.
- In March 2009, she was included among the top 10 most inspirational women in the country by Hindustan Times.
- In July 2012, Nupur was a member of the Indian and BJP delegation to the 2012 Indo-Pak American Council of Young Political Leaders (ACYPL) summit in the United States.
- Nupur has undertaken some welfare projects like installation of solar lamps, water purifiers and CCTV for campus security and has successfully completed those projects during her tenure as the President of Delhi University Students Union.
