Noel Tata is an Indian businessman with Irish citizenship. He is the Chairman of Trent, Tata Investment Corporation and Vice Chairman of Titan Company. He is also the former managing director of Tata International and stepped down from the post in 2021.

Noel Tata with UN Women to promote gender equality
He started his career by working at Tata International, a unit of Tata that offers products and services abroad. In 1999, he became managing director of Trent, Tata International’s retail vertical founded by his mother. At that time, Trent had acquired Littlewoods International (department store) and the name was changed to Westside. Noel worked to develop Westside and soon turned it into a profitable enterprise. Under his leadership, Trent’s market value reached Rs. Increase from Rs 3,600 crore in 2014 to Rs 40,000 crore in 2021. He was also appointed as the director of Titan Industries and Voltas in 2003. During 2010–2011, he became the Managing Director of Tata International. At that time this company handled the foreign business of the Tata Group worth US $ 70 billion. His work is also appreciated for Voltas, whose market valuation has doubled from Rs. More than Rs 18,000 40,000. In 2019, he was named as a trustee of the Tata Trusts and is currently a trustee of the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust and Allied Trusts which control Tata Sons. Noel Tata continued to work under executive roles till November 2021 and resigned from the posts after turning 65. Currently, he holds several non-executive positions in the Tata Group. This includes serving as Chairman of Trent, Voltas, Tata International, Tata Investment Corp and Vice Chairman of Titan.

Speculators believed that he would succeed Ratan Tata as the successor to the Tata Group. But in 2011, Noel’s brother-in-law Cyrus Mistry was declared Ratan Tata’s successor. However, Cyrus was removed from the post in 2016 and Ratan Tata took over the chairmanship. He held the post for four months and ultimately left the post in February 2017.
