Nirmal Kakar was born on Wednesday, 27 March 1963 (age 60 years; as of 2023) in New Delhi. Her zodiac sign is Aries. She did her schooling at Salwan Girls’ Senior Secondary School, Rajinder Nagar, New Delhi. In 1983, she pursued a bachelor’s degree in music at Daulat Ram College, New Delhi. She did her graduation in Hindustani vocal music after which she started working as a music teacher at Bal Bharti Public School, Pusa Road, New Delhi. After working there for some time, she moved to Mumbai with her husband and daughters.

In 2023, Nirmal appeared in the music series ‘Big Band Theory’ with her daughters and sang the song ‘Maavan Te Dheeyan.’ The song is about the relationship between a mother and a daughter. In an interview, Nirmal said that this was a very emotional journey for them.

The series also features Shankar Mahadevan, Shaan, Sukriti Kakkar, Prakriti Kakkar, Nirmal Kakkar, Nikita Gandhi, Shashwat, Romy, Siddharth Mahadevan, and Shivam Mahadevan. On 28 May 2023, the team of the series appeared on ‘The Kapil Sharma Show.’ On the show, her daughter Akriti talked about the series and said,
It was difficult at first, but the goal was to make Big Band Theory happen, and gradually, everyone started coming together. When I called Shankar ji, he sensed my nervousness and said he wouldn’t ask what it was about, but his answer was a definite ‘yes’. After agreeing to be a part of it, he learned about the idea.”
