Those were sleepless nights for me, there was no one to help or support me. I was completely alone. Yemen is not a place where one can see women out at night. But I will escape the attacks and run away from my house through the road.

Tommy Thomas said in an interview that Nimisha was fluent in Arabic, but she could not read the language. When the documents were being prepared, Mahdi reportedly got 67% of the clinic’s shares registered in his name, with 33% of the shares in Abdul Latir’s name. Mahdi also registered other types of clinic equipment and vehicles in his name. Thomas alleged that Nimisha had used around 22 SIM cards to contact him as whenever Mahdi confiscated one SIM card, she managed to get another SIM card. Several other police cases related to land fraud, vehicle fraud and money fraud were also registered against Mahdi.

Nimisha claimed in an interview that Mahdi was often lodged in a nearby jail, whose warden was known to Nimisha. On 25 July 2017, while Mahdi was taking drugs at his home, he injected her with ketamine. Mahdi fell to the ground after a few minutes and continued screaming before passing away at the age of 24. Nimisha quickly called Hanan, a fellow Yemeni nurse who lived down the road from her house in Al Deyadh and explained the situation to her. Hanan was aware of Nimisha’s torture at the hands of Mahdi, and he decided to cut her body into pieces and throw it in a nearby water tank. After seeing this, Nimisha allegedly had an anxiety attack and consumed pills while Hanan cut Mahdi’s body into pieces. After a few days, some people complained of foul smell coming from the water tank, following which police found Mahdi’s body parts and Nimisha and Hanan were arrested in August 2017.

Death penalty and rescue attempt

Following their arrest, Nimisha was awarded death sentence by a local court in August 2020 while Hanan was sentenced to life imprisonment.
