NFL legends defend Andy Reid’s ’emotional’ push of Travis Kelce in Super Bowl LVIII

Quick on defense, NFL legends rallied behind Travis Kelce after he received intense backlash for Andy Reid’s emotional shove in Super Bowl LVIII.

The incident occurred during the second quarter, just after Chiefs running back Isiah Pacheco lost a fumble. Kelce was seen bumping into Reid and yelling in his face on the sidelines.

Running back Jerick McKinnon ended up having to pull Kelce away from the Chiefs head coach. The dispute went viral and critics quickly encouraged the NFL to fine or even ban Kelce from the league for the outburst.

However, not everyone was willing to attack Kelce for what happened. During the February 13 episode of Inside the NFLhosts Ryan Clark, Channing Crowder, Jay Cutler, Chad Johnson and Chris Long addressed the feud and defended Travis Kelce’s actions against Andy Reid.

Crowder, a former Miami Dolphins linebacker, explained that football is an emotional sport. “From the outside world, a Hall of Fame tight end going up against a Hall of Fame head coach might look bad,” he said. “But without excitement, these two teams wouldn’t be where they are now.”

Long, a former defensive end for the New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles, said that while the intense situation was not a “look” the Chiefs wanted, it could have been worse had they not secured victory in Super Bowl LVIII.

“If they had lost the game, we would remember it,” Long explained. “But I think not just two Hall of Famers, but two guys who are like family to each other. … Conflict is resolved and tension is resolved in different ways than people are used to.”

Clark, a former Pittsburgh Steelers safety, added that the key focus should have been on the field, not Travis Kelce and Andy Reid.

Tom Brady also spoke about the Travis Kelce and Andy Reid incident

Meanwhile, during the February 13 episode of his Come on! On the podcast, Tom Brady shared his thoughts on the Super Bowl LVIII sideline incident between Travis Kelce and Andy Reid. Brady stated that “family issues” are expected within the team.

“I don’t mind watching it because I was a part of a lot of those things,” Brady explained. “Emotions are very high. You are definitely not centered or balanced. At that moment you are not in a meditative state. “You are completely determined to go out and win.”

Brady then praised Andy Reid for how he handled the incident with Travis Kelce. “Just amazing, like he always does,” Brady continued. “This also speaks to the confidence that Coach Reid has in himself. Because he doesn’t take it personally at all. He doesn’t look at that and he feels like someone offended him.”

Brady added that Reid takes it for what it is and doesn’t make it more than it is. He also doesn’t see anyone trying to belittle his coaching abilities. “Travis is not trying to do any of those things. He’s just trying to get excited and stay in the moment.”
