New Disney Show Zootopia+ Finally Gets Trailer 2 Days Before Release

Disney finally releases the trailer for Zootopia+ only two days before its official premiere on Disney+. Ever since the release of Tangled, Disney has embarked on a new era of animated feature films that have pushed the envelope both visually and storytelling-wise. Among the films to come out of this is Zootopia, which sets its story in the titular metropolis of anthropomorphic animals. The movies focuses on a police officer rabbit named Judy Hopps and a fox con-artist named Nick Wilde as they team up to solve the mystery of savage attacks from animals who suddenly lose control and turn feral.

During Disney’s big investors meeting in December 2020, the company made several announcements of movies and television shows coming to Disney+. Among them was the reveal that Walt Disney Animation Studios was developing short form television shows based on some of their biggest hits. The first one to be released was Baymax! in June 2022 and it was to soon be followed by a Zootopia series simply titled Zootopia+. While Baymax! received a timely trailer and heavy promotion, Disney hasn’t said much about Zootopia+ ahead of its release this coming Wednesday, November 9.

With Zootopia+‘s release in just a couple of days, Walt Disney Animation Studios has finally released a trailer for all to see. The Zootopia+ trailer gives viewers a glimpse at what’s to come by showcasing that the series is going to follow many of the side characters from the beloved film. Zootopia+ wil include six episodes featuring Fru Fru and her mice girls being filmed for a reality show, Duke Weaselton starring in a musical, Judy’s parents trying to reunite with one of their children, Mr. Big’s backstory from his youth, Clawhauser’s obsession with Gazelle’s new reality competition show, and Flash going on a rather slow moving date. Will Zootopia Get A Sequel?

Zootopia has garnered a huge following for its world-building, attention to detail, and memorable characters. It also, predictably, struck a chord with the furry community, with Disney even famously reaching out to them to help promote the film. Still, given how well the film was received and the vast potential to further explore its unique world, a sequel to Zootopia doesn’t appear to be a priority for Disney. However, the release of Zootopia+ may be an attempt to gauge interest in just such a project.

Directors Byron Howard and Rich Moore have both expressed interest in doing a Zootopia 2 and claim to already have ideas for what a sequel could be about. Previously, Tom Lister Jr., who voiced Finnick, revealed Disney was developing two Zootopia sequels, but nothing came of this. It’s possible, though, that Zootopia+ is what grew from those earlier sequel discussions. The series does appear as if it will show more of the world of Zootopia, following through on all the potential introduced with the film. And if Zootopia+ proves a hit for Disney+, then perhaps it could be followed with a feature length sequel to Zootopia that catches up with main characters Judy and Nick.
