Neeraj Chopra: Sports career

  3. Neeraj was then enrolled in the Tau Devi Lal Sports Complex in Panchkula, where he was coached by Naseem Ahmad. Under his guidance, he learned to run long and throw javelin. He achieved a throw distance of 55 metres, but when he competed in the Children’s Championship in Lucknow in 2012, he threw a record 68.40 metres.
  4. He hit 70 meters on the senior team and a record of 81.04 meters on the junior team.

  6. Neeraj’s first medal was a silver at the 2014 Bangkok Youth Olympic Games qualifiers.

Neeraj Chopra was offered as a junior officer in the Rajputana Rifles in the Army after the Indian Army was impressed by his performance at the South Asian Games. He was awarded the Naib Subedar rank, which athletes do not easily obtain.
