Neel Pawan Baruah grew up in a small village near Tiyak, Assam. A major news agency announced that his birthday was June 1, 1936. When he died, he was 86 years old. Career

In 1966, Neel began working as a teacher at Guwahati College of the Arts. He started holding art exhibitions in 1969. During the 1970s, he raised funds to paint a 180-foot painting called ‘Vrindavani Prachir’. He founded Charu-Karu Kala Parisha, the first private art school in Assam. His paintings have been exhibited at Birla Institute of Culture and Arts in Calcutta, Lucknow Academy of Fine Arts in Bhubaneswar and Lalit Kala Academy in Delhi, among other locations.
