Mukta Puntambekar has two sisters named Yashoda Wakankar (social worker) and Aditi Avachat. He has a brother named Akshay Avachat.

After completing her formal education, Mukta Puntambekar joined ‘Muktangan’, a rehabilitation center in Pune, Maharashtra, as a clinical psychologist. His father, Anil Avachat, and his wife, Anita Avachat, founded Muktangan in 1986, which soon received support from various sections of civil society, including Marathi cultural icon PL Deshpande. Initially, it was a division at the Yerawada Mental Hospital, but later expanded into nearby independent facilities, including male and female wards and specialist support for addiction recovery. Anil Avachat was also known for promoting the anti-superstition movement in Maharashtra.
Mukta Puntambekar often attends various charitable functions and events as the chief guest. She follows Gandhian principles and frequently participates in panel discussions on drug addiction.
In 2023, she appeared in the television reality show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ to earn money for charitable causes.
