Following his now infamous chair-throwing arrest in Nashville last weekend, Morgan Wallen’s struggles with alcohol resurface once again.
He Last night The hitmaker was arrested on Sunday, April 7, after he allegedly threw a chair from the roof of Chief’s six-story building.
Although the chair fortunately didn’t hit anyone on the ground, it landed right next to two Nashville police officers, who immediately arrested Wallen.
Morgan Wallen was charged with three counts of reckless endangerment and one count of disorderly conduct. He posted bail of $15,250. His attorney, Worrick Robinson, issued a statement confirming the incident. He also stated that the country music star is cooperating fully with authorities.
Morgan Wallen’s drinking is a ‘problem’
Sources spoke with PEOPLE about the incident, noting that Wallen has problems with alcohol. “Overall, Morgan is a pleasant and fun person to hang out with,” experts say.
“But when he gets going he doesn’t know when to stop. “Morgan and alcohol are a problem and it has been a problem that keeps coming up.”
Morgan Wallen was previously arrested for public intoxication and disorderly conduct while at Kid Rock’s Big A – Honky Tonk Rock N’ Roll Steakhouse in 2020. Following the incident, he spent 30 days in treatment after he was caught on video infamously saying a racial slur while intoxicated with friends.
He addressed his problems with alcohol in his song. I was born with a beer in my hand. The lyrics say: “Just because I’m smiling through my sobriety / Don’t mean it’s not relaxing in the back of my mind / I’m not saying I swore forever / I’m just saying I’m doing the best I can / But what do you expect from a hick? / Hell, I was born with a beer in my hand.”
Morgan Wallen is scheduled to appear in court on May 3.
Wallen admitted he used to be afraid to perform without drinking
In a December 2023 interview with Billboard, Morgan Wallen opened up about his former drinking habits before his 30-day stint in rehab.
“That used to be my warm-up: staying in the half-light,” Wallen explained of his former approach to preparing for a performance. “’I’m going out and we’re going to have fun.’ Now, that is No the way I approach it.”
Morgan Wallen later admitted that he used to be afraid to even think about performing without drinking. “’That sounds terrible,’” she noted her previous thoughts. “‘Why would she do that?’ And now I’m almost afraid to wonder what it would be like if he was drunk.”
Speaking about the racial slur incident, Wallen stated that he is no longer that person. The country star noticed that everything changed.
“There is no excuse,” he declared. “I have never made an excuse. I will never make an excuse. I’ve talked to a lot of people, heard stories [aboout] “Things I never would have thought about because I wasn’t the one going through it.”
