Morgan Wallen’s excessive drinking is a ‘problem that keeps coming up’

Following his now infamous chair-throwing arrest in Nashville last weekend, Morgan Wallen’s struggles with alcohol resurface once again.

Sources spoke with PEOPLE about the incident, noting that Wallen has problems with alcohol. “Overall, Morgan is a pleasant and fun person to hang out with,” experts say.

“But when he gets going he doesn’t know when to stop. “Morgan and alcohol are a problem and it has been a problem that keeps coming up.”

Morgan Wallen was previously arrested for public intoxication and disorderly conduct while at Kid Rock’s Big A – Honky Tonk Rock N’ Roll Steakhouse in 2020. Following the incident, he spent 30 days in treatment after he was caught on video infamously saying a racial slur while intoxicated with friends.

Wallen admitted he used to be afraid to perform without drinking

In a December 2023 interview with Billboard, Morgan Wallen opened up about his former drinking habits before his 30-day stint in rehab.

“That used to be my warm-up: staying in the half-light,” Wallen explained of his former approach to preparing for a performance. “’I’m going out and we’re going to have fun.’ Now, that is No the way I approach it.”

Morgan Wallen later admitted that he used to be afraid to even think about performing without drinking. “’That sounds terrible,’” she noted her previous thoughts. “‘Why would she do that?’ And now I’m almost afraid to wonder what it would be like if he was drunk.”

Speaking about the racial slur incident, Wallen stated that he is no longer that person. The country star noticed that everything changed.
