Monica Purohit was born as ‘Monica Sharma’ on Saturday, 14 February 1976 (age 44 years; as in 2020) in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. Their zodiac sign is Aquarius. In 1997, Monica and her husband, Gyanendra Purohit, founded Anand Service Society, an organization for the deaf and disabled. The inspiration for forming the organization was his brother-in-law, Anand (Gyanendra’s brother), who was deaf and mute and died in a train accident in 1997.

The organization has been instrumental in helping handicapped and disabled children and women in their education, training and employment support. The organization is headquartered in Indore and also operates in tribal and rural areas like Dhar and Alirajpur (the most illiterate district of India) in Madhya Pradesh.

Monica taught deaf and dumb children through the organization and inspired them to live like normal people. Through her husband’s organization and advocacy, Monica was successful in getting deaf children access to general schools, reservation of teacher posts for deaf-mute people by the state government, reservation quota for deaf people in government ITI colleges and their admission in them. BERA test mandatory for government jobs, and more. Monica is also the state level women coordinator of MP Deaf and Dumb Police Helpline run by Indore Police in joint collaboration with Anand Service Society.

  • From 1998 to 2000, she was a member of the Student Action Committee of her college.
