Mo Amer Will Return With A New Netflix Comedy Series Called Mo

Mo Amer, a Palestinian-American stand-up comedian, is returning to Netflix with a solo comedy series called Mo, which premieres August 24 at 12 p.m. PT/3 a.m. ET. Amer’s second Netflix comedy, following the 2018 special series Mo Amer: Tramp, Mo is directed by Solvan “Slick” Naim and will consist of eight 30-minute episodes. In the film, Amer will play the main character Mo Najjar. Here’s everything you need to know about the comedy series ahead of its August 24 premiere.

The comedy series’ trailer shows Mo Amer’s journey as a Palestinian-American in the United States, following the life of someone who has no Palestinian or US citizenship. In the trailer, Mo calls himself a “refugee freedom agent”. He has been observed selling unusual items to individuals and when questioned he said:

“Without paperwork, the only thing I could do was sell something. I have to provide for my family.”

The trailer also talks about religion, the practice of Islam in the United States, and what it means to live a multicultural life.

According to the Netflix series synopsis:

“As a Palestinian refugee constantly living one step away from asylum on the road to American citizenship, Mo Najjar crosses boundaries between two cultures, three languages, and a bunch of nonsense. Family he flees to Houston, Texas, including his strongmen and spiritual mother, sister and brother Mo learn to adapt to the new environment by laughing at the pain, despite the reality of progress Going forward in life there are many obstacles.

A closer look at Mo .’s cast list

Mo Amer, along with comedian Ramy Youssef, serves as executive producer and series creator in addition to directing. This is not the first collaboration between Amer and Youssef. Amer played Ramy, Youssef’s Muslim cousin in the latter two seasons of the Hulu comedy Ramy. Mo Amer is also a member of the famous comedy group Allah makes me laugh. Azhar Usman and Bryant “Preacher” Moss are the other two members of the trio.

1) Mo Najjar

Najjar, played by Mo Amer, is a refugee in the United States going through a complicated immigration process. He works hard to support his family by selling knick-knacks because the lack of legal papers makes it impossible for him to enter the normal field of work.

Teresa Ruiz plays Mo’s girlfriend, also a businesswoman. Maria is a strong-willed woman who is devoted to her relationship with Mo, but refuses to sacrifice her independence or her worth.

Mo’s mother is played by Yusra Najjar Farah Bsieso. She is agile, intelligent and when necessary will act as the interventional head of the household. Despite the hardships she faced as a refugee in the United States, Yusra’s concerns remained her family, God, and the TV series The Price is Right.

Sameer, played by Omar Elba, is Mo’s brother. He’s the cat type, and despite his social fears, deep down he’s always looking for independence and affection.
