Mitul Trivedi- An Imposter

On 30 August 2023, the Surat Crime Branch arrested tuition teacher Mitul Trivedi after he gave media interviews posing as an ISRO scientist, claiming that he designed Chandrayaan 3’s Vikram lander. Furthermore, Trivedi forged documents and a letter to support his claim. In the fake appointment letter from ISRO dated 26 February 2022, he claimed to be the assistant chairman of ISRO’s Ancient Science Application Department. In another letter, Trivedi claimed to be a space research member for ISRO’s upcoming project called “Mercury Force in Space.” On August 24, a day after India’s Chandrayaa-3 successfully landed on the south pole of the moon, Trivedi gave an interview to news agency PTI in which he said,

We felt as if we were on the moon, it was the proudest moment.”

The police took action after an application was submitted to the Commissioner of Police requesting an investigation into the matter. The police revealed that Trivedi confessed that he drafted the letter to attract more students to register for his classes. His aim was to impress the parents of students by showing them the fake documents. An FIR was registered against Trivedi under IPC sections 465, 468, 471 and 419. When Mitul Trivedi’s sham made headlines in 2023, he had been posing as a NASA and ISRO scientist for around 10 years. He prefixed “Dr” to his name on Facebook and YouTube and maintained that he had affiliations with ISRO since 2011 and NASA since 2013.  In a Facebook post dated 5 January 2017, Mitul Trivedi claimed to be a ‘Scientist of NASA & ISRO, Archeologist, and Historian’ for an event.
