Jake Paul and Mike Tyson are already scheduled to meet in an upcoming fight on July 20. But since Tyson was one of the most decorated fighters of all time (and more than twenty years older than Jake), many expected the fight to be an exhibition. Which means a loss wouldn’t taint Tyson’s Hall of Fame career.
But that is not the case. According to TMZ, the next fight will be a sanctioned fight. The stakes in the confrontation are much higher.
The fight between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul has new rules
“Jake Paul’s boxing match against Mike Tyson is going to be the real deal; the two sides just announced that their next fight is a sanctioned professional fight,” TMZ wrote.
“Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions shared the news on Monday… saying the big event will feature official career records. The heavyweight fight will consist of 8 2-minute rounds. And they will use 14 oz. gloves (instead of the typical 10-ounce gloves).”
Paul reacts to upcoming fight with Tyson
This will be the first time Paul and Tyson face each other in the ring. But it won’t be the first time they are on the same billboard. Paul was on Tyson’s undercard for his second professional fight. He knocked out former NBA star Nate Robinson in a convincing victory. Paul reflected on how this moment has come full circle.
“It’s crazy to think that in my second professional fight, I went viral for knocking out Nate Robinson on the Mike Tyson undercard,” Paul said.
“Now, less than four years later, I am stepping up to face Tyson. To see if I have what it takes to beat one of boxing’s most notorious fighters and biggest icons. “Just two and a half years after founding MVP, we are about to produce the biggest fight in history.”
“A fight in the largest NFL stadium in the United States, broadcast live, on the largest streaming platform in the world. A testament to everything we have achieved in such a short time.”
Now that the stakes have officially increased, it will be interesting to see if that generates more interest in the upcoming fight between Paul and Tyson.
