Mike Hodges, a renowned film and television director, passed away on December 17 at the age of 90. The cause of death has not been released and his medical records are not available at this time. Michael Gordon, writer and publisher, paid tribute to him on social media by tweeting several photos of the official poster designed by Hodges. Gordon stated:
“The movie is still alive. You shouldn’t stifle it. Never be overly artistic, over-conceptualised, over-researched, or start with a preconceived notion of how things should be done. “
Director David L Knight also shared his condolences on his official Facebook page, posting a photo of Hodges and writing:
“I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Mike Hodges. Flash Gordon will always have a special place in my heart. RIP for a great great British film.
Hodges is known for his contributions to films such as Pulp, The Terminal Man, Flash Gordon, A Prayer for the Dying and others. He has worked on TV shows such as Rumour, Suspect, The Manipulators, Florida Straits and others.
Mike Hodges has also worked in theatre, radio, film and television.
Michael Tommy Hodges, born July 29, 1932, began his career as a teleprompter operator for television programs. The Tyrant King, an ABC children’s television series, marks Hodges’ directorial debut. The show was praised for its music, which included songs by The Rolling Stones, Cream, Pink Floyd and others. The main characters are played by Murray Melvin, Candace Glendenning, Edward McMurray, Kim Fortune and Philip Madoc. Mike Hodges directed his feature film debut, Get Carter. It was released on March 10, 1971, to mixed reviews, but quickly became a favorite. The reaction of the film has grown over time and in addition to receiving several awards, it has also been praised by Quentin Tarantino and Guy Ritchie.

Hodges’ other films include Flash Gordon, A Prayer for the Dying, Black Rainbow and I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead. Mike has directed the ITV series Dandelion Dead as well as several television series. Mike’s wife Carol Lewis, sons Ben and Jake, and five grandchildren – Marlon, Honey, Orson, Michael and Gabriel – survived him.
