“I was shocked to learn of Michael Lehrer’s passing. I met him in Los Angeles over three years ago, but he was such a bright light. Extremely witty, charming, fun and simple. simply unforgettable. Rest in peace, my friend.”
Another comic, Angie McMahon, expressed her grief by posting a lengthy post featuring a photo of Lehrer, noting that they first met while dining at Piper’s Alley and Lehrer was performing at ETC at the time. McMahon said Lehrer used her theater for rehearsals and that she met his son Colin when Michael visited them over the summer. She went on to say:
“One night we were both playing alone at IO, and he wanted to go ahead so he could meet me. We danced and paced back and forth in the little green room for what seemed like an eternity, just performing music and making each other laugh.”
McMahon concluded the article by praising Lehrer as a talented, witty, and quirky person. She continued that she will always miss him. Despite suffering from ALS, Lehrer continued to perform in a wheelchair for many years. Therefore, no arrangements for the monument have been established.
