Melanie served as Minister of Advanced Education and Skills Training from 2017 to 2020 and Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport from 2020 to 2022.

Melanie Mark was born in East Vancouver, Vancouver, Canada in 1975. His birth name is Melanie Joy Mark. She is also known as Hli Haykwhl ii Xsgaak in Nisga’a. She is Canadian by nationality, while she is of mixed descent, with Nisga’a, Gitxsan, Cree and Ojibway ancestors. Melanie credits her aunts and grandparents for helping her cope with the death of her younger brother, who was killed by a semi while riding his bike, her mother’s addiction and homelessness, and her father’s overdose.
